Sylvia Ann Rabalais Carrio

1927 - 2021

Sylvia Ann Carrio passed away on Sunday, September 19, 2021, in the comfort of her home with devoted family. She was born in Moreauville, LA, on September 11, 1927, to Vance and Lottie Desselle Rabalais. After high school graduation, she enrolled in the Hotel Dieu School of Nursing through the Army Nurse Cadet Corp program, graduating in 1948 as a registered nurse. She continued working in New Orleans where she met and married her devoted husband. Baton Rouge would become home, where they raised 3 daughters. She was proud of her family and nursing career in Maternal and Child Health. Her strong Catholic faith provided strength to fight a courageous 30 year battle with metastatic breast cancer, but complications from Delta Covid were more than she could overcome. She practiced high values and morals, a strong work ethic, patience, kindness, and love. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her and will always hold a special place in our hearts. Sylvia is preceded in death by her parents; her devoted husband, Edward G Carrio (who died following their 70" wedding anniversary, 2 years ago); her only brother, Jude Rabalais; and several sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law. She is survived by daughters, Deborah C. Nicholas (Larry), Gretchen C Lyons (Kent, Sr) and Jan Carrio; grandchildren, Shane Nicholas (Cheryl), Amy N Thomassie (Warren), Kent Lyons, Jr (Jennifer), and Jared Lyons (Christy); great-grandchildren, Austin Nicholas, Erika T Price (Justin), Benjamin Thomassie, Aidan, Abigail, Ava and Emily Lyons; 5 great-great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Elsie Rabalais; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Visitation will be held at St. Patrick Catholic Church (12424 Brogdon Lane, BR) on Thursday, September 23, at 10 am until Mass of Christian Burial at 11. Burial will follow at Greenoaks Mausoleum. The family would like to thank the medical staff at Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center and Pinnacle Home Health and Hospice for their dedicated and compassionate care. Face masks and distancing are encouraged.
