Walter Cunningham

Matthew 11:28. Then Jesus said "come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens and I will give you rest." Walter, age 94, went to his heavenly home on Monday, December 5, 2016 at his Albany residence 13 days before his 95th birthday, December 18, 1921. He was a devout Christian, loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend and will be deeply missed by all who knew him. He leaves behind more memories than can be counted. He was an avid bird, squirrel and rabbit hunter. Walter was a proud veteran of World War II, honorably serving his country from 1942-1945. He was a lifetime member of Old Zion Hill Baptist Church. Walter leaves behind his loving wife of 73 years, Hortense Hoover Cunningham; two daughters and son-in-laws, Thelma and Lee D. Hughes, Brenda and Ronald Sykes; son and daughter-in-law, Dusty and Pat Cunningham; 7 grandchildren, Joye Hughes, Trey and Heather Hughes, Kevin Sykes, Kasey Sykes, Kori and Brandon Lester, Tonya and Casey Miller, Dustin and Jordan Cunningham; and 8 great-grandchildren, Lee and Brook Hughes, Wyatt Hughes, Khloe and Kamryn Lester, Blake and Brody Miller, Addisyn and Ella Grace Cunningham; sister, Bea Monday; and many nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death are his parents, Mary Addison and George Cunningham; six brothers, Brady, George, H.R., Elmore, Wallace and Homer; three sisters, Corrine, Alice and Mary. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the visitation from the chapel of Brandon G. Thompson Funeral Home, Hammond, on Thursday, December 8, 2016 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Visitation will resume at Old Zion Hill Baptist Church on Friday, December 9, 2016, from 9:00 a.m. until the funeral services at 11:00 a.m. Pallbearers will be his grandsons.
