Winnfred Wilford Obituary

Winnfred L Wilford (woggie, winney, win) age 79, went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Saturday, February 9, 2019, at the St. Clare Manor in Baton Rouge, La. He was the second son of Mollie Alexander Wilford and Louis Wendell Wilford born March 8, 1939.He graduated from Southern Lab School and attended Southern University. Win was one of the first African American males signed by the Ford Modeling Agency. He was Vice President of Epic Records, Publicity and Artist Affairs, Special Markets. He wrote articles in the "Baton Rouge News Leader" under the "New York and Other Points" section. He was also Manager/Publicist of well known artists around the country. Due to health reasons Win returned to Baton Rouge with his wife, Saundra. Win leaves to cherish his memories: Wife, Saundra Wilford, daughter, Robin Benton-Logan and her husband, Greg Logan: 3 sons - Danton Wilford, Toland and Bryant Wilford: 2 brothers - Carl Wilford and Johnny Wilford: 1 sister, Roena I Wilford: 3 granddaughters - Brittany Logan, Brooke Wright-Logan, Briahnna Logan, Cousins, Nieces and Nephews, numerous great nieces and nephew, great great nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at Mt. Carmel Baptist Church of Baton Rouge, 5262 Prescott Rd. Baton Rouge, La,. Friday, February 15, 2019 Viewing - 8 to 10 am, service starts at 10 am, interment will be at the Louisianna National Cemetery.

Wow! Something told me something happened to Winn. He had produced a demo album with me and two other guys. We were called Au Naturel.

Our demos didn't get accepted by Columbia or Epic. This didn't mean we weren't good because our live act made us internationally acclaimed.

But it caused friction in our group and we broke up.

I stayed in touch with Winn over the years and he always gave me valuable advice.

He was fun to be around. He had a laugh that could make you laugh. I will miss him.

May the LORD protect his wife and children.

My sincere condolences to the Wilford family. I attended church with Roena in Jeffersontown, Ky when I was in dental school. My daughter Cammie was fond of her and majored in accounting at FAMU until her death in 1993.

My condolences to Winn's immediate family. Growing up in New Orleans, I remember hearing about cousin Winn who went to N.Y. and became a big success. I ran into him years ago in N. Y. at the Javits Center. It was so pleasant to speak with him. Take your rest Cousin
