Susanne Meade Barr passed away peacefully at the Hospice of the Bluegrass Care Center in St. Joseph Hospital in Lexington, Kentucky on Aug. 30, 2016 at the age of 71.
Her husband, Dr. James M. Barr, just passed away on Aug. 27, 2016. She is also predeceased by her parents, Arnold and Laverne (Jahr) Meade of Paintsville. She is survived by her daughters, Cassy Wiggins (Paul) of Parker, Colorado, Jamie Clark (Stuart) of Frankfort, and Carrie Darnaby (Steve) of Frankfort, and grandsons, Andy Clark, Will Clark, and Jake Darnaby.
Dr. and Mrs. Barr had just celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on Aug. 10, 2016.
Susanne is also survived and remembered by her two brothers, Greg Meade (Jan) and Barry Meade (Sandy), her sister Jenny Meade Brown (Greg), three nieces, six nephews, and many cousins, great nephews and nieces.
Susanne was born in Paintsville, on Dec. 24, 1944. She graduated from Paintsville High School in 1962 and went on to earn her Bachelor's Degree in Home Economics from the University of Kentucky in 1966. She loved being a mom and enjoyed raising her three daughters. For many years, she managed her husband's dermatology practice in Frankfort.
Susanne was very talented, creative, and artistic. She enjoyed and excelled in needlepoint, weaving, embroidery, drawing, painting, sewing, quilting, and refinishing antique furniture. She also loved cooking and reading. As much as she loved artistic pursuits, Susanne also loved being outdoors. Her family shares many special memories including cooking out, camping, swimming, and nature walks on their beloved 48 acre property in Lawrenceburg. Susanne was a member of the Lawrenceburg United Methodist Church, where she loved and enjoyed worshipping and singing traditional hymns.
Visitation will be held at Harrod Brothers Funeral Home in Frankfort on Saturday, Sept. 24, 2016 from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Immediately following will be a celebration of life service, also held at Harrod Brothers Funeral Home on Saturday, Sept. 24, 2016 from 2 to 3 p.m..
Additionally, a memorial ceremony will be held on Aug. 12, 2017 at the home and property of Dr. and Mrs. James Barr in Lawrenceburg, at their beloved "Barr" lake where ashes will be spread and a tree planted in remembrance.
