Beverly Montgomery Obituary

Greensboro, GA – Dr. Beverly Cagle Montgomery, a resident of Greensboro, GA, died August 29, 2025, in Augusta, GA, surrounded by the love of her family.

Bev was born to Cheryl Cagle in Athens, GA on July 1, 1970, and the world was never the same.

As the eldest of the five Cagle children, Bev was a "little mama" from the start, a role she took to heart. She was a natural caregiver and protector, looking after first, Anna and Charner, and later, Will and Grace. Her mischievous streak kept the busy house lively, often instigating pranks and adventures.

As a young adult with two children of her own, Jonathan and Haydn, Beverly moved to the country to be near her parents, Tommy and Debbie. Here, she transformed a shotgun house into a home. It became a haven for all who knew her, a place where people would gather, with her only rule being, "Don't wake the babies."

Her love story with her husband, Shaw, started with him long admiring her from afar. Through his own brand of persistence and charm, he won her over. They made it official in 2002 at a small courthouse ceremony with a wedding dinner at Ruby Tuesday's. Because it never mattered where you were with Bev, she brought the fun.

Her passion for cooking was well-known, catering dinners and events. But the most important meal she ever cooked was a candlelight dinner of SpaghettiOs when her Dad proposed to the one she would call Mom.

Beverly dedicated 26 years of her life to education. She was an incredible teacher, especially gifted at reaching at-risk youth and those needing extra support. For the past 4 years, Bev has been in the role of an administrator at Lake Oconee Academy. Her vision was to effect change on a larger scale that impacted LOA as a whole. She was a respected leader and a fierce advocate for her students.

Bev is survived by her loving husband, Shaw; daughters, Haydn and Emily; sisters, Anna Taunton (Darryl) and Grace Staniszewski (David); brothers, Charner Rouse (Crystal) and William Cagle (Rachel); her devoted parents, Tommy and Debbie Cagle; and sixteen nieces and nephews. She will be remembered for her ability to make everyone feel seen and loved. She will be deeply missed.

Bev is preceded in death by her first-born, Jonathan Garrett Edwards. He received her with open arms, and her family is thankful for their reunion.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to a cause that became close to her heart following her son's death, Jonathan's House. Donations can be made at https://www.jonathanshouse.org/

A celebration of life will be held in Moultrie, Georgia at a later date.
