Jane Lackman Obituary

Jane Ellen Clontz Lackman, 94, beloved Mother of Lisa Ellen Lackman Mitchell and wife of the late Raymond Allen Lackman, Jr. entered into rest on Sunday, November 23, 2025.

Jane Ellen was born on March 9, 1931, in Rockhill, SC. She was the daughter of John Maxwell Clontz and Esther Hilton Clontz.

Jane's father moved the family to Augusta, GA, to take a job with the Georgia Railroad, her senior year in high school. It was in Augusta, that she met her husband, Ray, and graduated from Tubman High School for Girls. She continued her education at Augusta Junior College, and then earned her B.S. in Elementary Education from The University of Georgia. Jane would go on to teach hundreds of children to read as a first grade teacher, during a career that spanned 31 years. She taught at Forest Hills, Windsor Springs, Copeland, and Lake Forest Hills. In 1972, she was honored to become the very first, First Grade teacher, for Westminster Schools of Augusta, where she taught for the last 15 years.

Jane was a member of the Alpha Delta Kappa sorority, which honors outstanding women educators. She was a member of the Medical College of Georgia ("MCG") Faculty Wives Club, and alongside her husband, Ray, the Dean of Administration for the MCG School of Dentistry, entertained and recruited the first faculty of DMDs.

She was a loyal Georgia Bulldog fan and attended games in Athens, well into her 70's. She was raised in the Methodist Church and joined the Evangelical Lutheran Church of the Resurrection after she married. Jane enjoyed painting china, landscapes, and watercolors, trips to the Mall, the Movies, lunch with her "Peaches" group, home and garden tours, decorating, and antiquing.

Jane's heart and soul were her daughter Lisa and her loyal and devoted son-in-law, Craig, who she loved as a son, her granddaughter Madeline Jane, and grandson Maxwell, as well as her great-granddaughters Elizabeth Jane, Anna Madeline, and great-grandson Benjamin. They had the best of times, cheering the Bulldogs to victory, hosting fabulous Halloween parties, and bringing in the New Year by clanging pots and pans on the front porch at midnight, as well as, memorable trips to Charleston, Disney World, and New York City.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved three year old daughter Mary Lynne Lackman, and her sister Anna Clontz Crawford.

She is survived by her daughter Lisa Ellen Lackman Mitchell (Craig), her granddaughter Madeline Jane Mitchell Wills (Charles), and their children Elizabeth Jane, Benjamin Wills, Anna Madeline, and her grandson, Maxwell Stephen Mitchell. Her brother-in-law Edward Eve Crawford and her nephews, John Maxwell Crawford (Katherine), and Edward Eve Crawford, Jr. (Tamara), her great nieces Charlotte Anne (Matt), Lelia (Matt), and great nephews Edward (Kaylee), and Max (Ryan).

The family gives thanks and gratitude for the extraordinary care given to her by Martha Harrell, Sharon Starks, Kelly Lewis, and Susan Bownan who led the team of compassionate and dedicated caregivers from SRP Home Care, Dr. David Harrover, and Southeastern Hospice team.

Donations in honor and memory may be made to the Wellstar Children's Hospital of Georgia.

The funeral service will be held Wednesday, November 26, 2025 at 3:00 P.M. at the Lutheran Church of the Resurrection with Pastor David Hunter officiating. Interment will follow in Westover Memorial Park.
