David Francis Hammett Sr.

David Francis Hammett Sr., a devoted husband, loving father, cherished grandfather, and a proud resident of Pasadena, MD, passed away peacefully at the age of 79 on Tuesday, March 11th, 2025. Born in Baltimore, Maryland on Thursday, September 6th, 1945, he moved to Pasadena in 1957, where he lived and enriched the community for most of his life. David was a graduate of Glen Burnie High School and dedicated over 50 years of his professional life as a longshoreman at the Dundalk Marine Terminal, a testament to his work ethic and commitment. His service to the nation as a member of the US Marine Reserves during the Vietnam War was marked by honor and dedication until his honorable discharge. Beyond his professional and military commitments, David found joy in various pursuits such as carpentry and woodworking, and in his younger years, he enjoyed bowling. These hobbies reflected his love for creativity and craftsmanship. David is survived by his beloved wife, Edwina Hammett of Pasadena, MD; his children, Terri Smith, David Hammett Jr., and Brian Hammett; his sister, Mary Moyers; and his grandchildren, Jaclyn Smith, Justin Smith, Jamie Smith, and Cierra Tauber, David Hammett, III, and Devin Hammett. He was also blessed with the love of his great-grandchildren, Caleb Nicholson, Alaina Smith, Colton Nicholson. He joins in eternal rest his mother Frances A. Hammett and his brother Joseph Hammett. Friends and family are invited to honor David's memory during a visitation on Tuesday, March 18th, 2025 at the Stallings Funeral Home in Pasadena, Maryland, with afternoon hours from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm and evening hours from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm. A funeral service officiated by Steve Hook will be held at the same location on Wednesday, March 19th, 2025 at 11:00 am. Interment Glen Haven Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to The American Cancer Society, an organization David supported and believed in. David's vibrant spirit, unwavering dedication to his loved ones, and his legacy as a craftsman and community supporter will remain in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
