Mary Hunter Obituary

Mary G. Hunter was born on January 18, 1958, in Bowie, Maryland, to the late Helen E. Green and George E. Green Sr. She peacefully departed this life on April 7, 2025, in Silver Spring, Maryland.

Mary was raised in Bowie, where she grew up surrounded by family and friends who would come to know her as a strong, down-to-earth woman. She was a proud graduate of Bowie High School and spent many years working at the Laurel, Pimlico, and Bowie Racetracks before joining Prince George’s County Public Schools, where she served faithfully until her retirement.

Mary was the kind of person who told it like it was and knew how to have a good time. She enjoyed playing Pokeno and bingo, watching Westerns, and hanging out with loved ones. She especially loved summer days filled with crabs, shrimp, and a cold beer. In her younger years, she also enjoyed attending cabarets and spending time in the mix with family and friends.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Edward Green Jr. (“Big Eddie”) and Nathaniel Green (“Papa”); her daughter, Melinda Thrower; and her nephew, David Thomas.

She leaves to cherish her memory: her children, Raymond “Jibb” Thrower (Ellie), Angela Green, and Dennis Hunter; her beloved grandchildren, Monty, Nora, and Mattaew; her siblings, Carol Thomas “Susie May” and Joyce Green-Millner (Willie); and her nieces and nephews—Kim, Eddie, Lania, Tulsa, Nate Jr., Tiana, Tyrielle, Mariah, Michaela, Tyler, Kimberly, William, and Diamond, and a host of other family and friends who loved her dearly.

Mary will be remembered for her sense of humor, her laid-back presence, and her unwavering love for her family. Her memory lives on in the hearts of all who knew her.
