Richard Schwinger Obituary

Mr. Richard E. Schwinger (October 8, 1942 – April 12, 2025) Richard E. Schwinger, age 82, of Glenwood, MD passed away on Saturday, April 12, 2025, after a long hospitalization. Born October 8, 1942, in Baltimore, MD, he was the eldest son of the late Kenneth Schwinger and Jean Uhler Schwinger. He was the loving husband of the late Patricia A. Schwinger, his spouse of almost 53 years, and later of the late Jameella Nuur Schwinger, his spouse of about 5 years. Richard grew up in Baltimore, Maryland. After graduating from Milford Mill High School, Richard attended West Virginia Wesleyan University, where he and Pat met. After graduating, Richard attended Wesley Theological Seminary in Washington D.C. and became a Methodist minister, serving as minister at multiple area churches over the years, including Jennings Chapel Church, Poplar Springs United Methodist Church, and Mount Vernon Place United Methodist Church in Baltimore. After serving several more years in pastoral counseling, Richard left full-time ministry and worked for a number of years as a business manager for three different companies. Ultimately, he finished his working life working with Pat in the daycare business she built with her business partner as a maintenance and handy man. Richard was a member of Glenelg United Methodist Church in Glenelg, Maryland. He enjoyed golf, traveling, beekeeping, and spending time with his family. Surviving are his sons and daughters-in-law, Robert A. and Jennifer D. Schwinger of Ashburn, Virginia, and D. Scott and Marsha R. Schwinger of Bethesda, Maryland. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Ryan, Peyton, Zach, Garrett, and Taylor, and his brother and sister-in-law, Bruce and Lois Schwinger of Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida. A funeral service will be held Saturday June 7, 2025, at 11:00 A.M. at the Glenelg United Methodist Church, 13900 Burntwoods Road, Glenelg, Maryland. Officiating will be his pastor, Rev. Elizabeth Jackson. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Lung Association, ion Processing Center, P.O. Box 70360, Philadelphia PA 19176, or online at action.lung.org. Online condolences may be offered at www.haightfuneralhome.com.
