Joan Langlie Obituary

Joan Langlie, 72, of Brownstown, died at 3:03 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 2, 209, surrounded by family at Schneck Medical Center, Seymour. She was a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Brownstown. She was a registered nurse who earned her degree at Indiana University NW. She worked at Gary Methodist Hospital and Dunn Hospital and Hospitality House at Bedford. She served as a volunteer at Hoosier Christian Village over the past 20 years. She enjoyed visiting residents at Hoosier Christian Village where she brought gifts of flowers from her garden and cookies she had baked. She led a women's Bible study in her home and tutored grade school children at nearby grade schools. She was supportive of the Boy Scouts of America and participated in a local book club. Each month, Joan baked and sent 48 dozen chocolate chip cookies to troops in Afghanistan. She also sent cookies to troops in Iraq, earning a merit award from the United States Government for supporting US troop morale. She also enjoyed gardening and reading. She was born Feb. 22, 1937, at St. Clair Shores, Mich., a daughter of the late Walter and Catherine Frantz Blendall. She married Nelson Langlie Aug. 14, 1954, at Park Ridge, Ill., and he preceded her in death. Survivors include four daughters, Mary Louise Langlie, Carolyn (Ted) Langlie Lesnik, Jessica Joyce (Kevin Stiles) Langlie, and Lynne Ann (Mike) Crohn; a brother, Donald Woodside of Arizona; a sister, Betty DeTeodora of Silver Springs, Fla.; six grandchildren, Tom Stiles, Kati (Preston) Carter, Angela Langlie Lesnik, Chelsea Langlie Lesnik, Justin Crohn, and Tyler Crohn; and two great-grandchildren, Mary Josephine Carter and Nathaniel David Carter. A daughter, Diane Elizabeth Langlie, a brother, Walter Blendall, and a sister, Jessie Martin, also preceded her in death. Memorial services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 12, at Spurgeon Funeral Home, Brownstown, with James Moore officiating. Interment will be at St. Peter's Lutheran Cemetery, Brownstown.
