Edwin M. Harley Jr.
Edwin M. Harley Jr., born April 13, 1929, in Chicago, Illinois, entered peacefully into the presence of his Lord and Savior after a long and full life devoted to faith, family, and service.
Raised in Moorestown, New Jersey, Ed's early years were shaped by close family bonds and a strong sense of responsibility. After graduating from high school in 1946, he answered the call to serve his country by joining the United States Army and serving in Italy.
Following his military service, Ed pursued higher education at the Georgia Institute of Technology, where he became a proud member of the Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity. His academic journey culminated in a doctorate of philosophy, leading him into a distinguished career as a chemical engineer. Ed approached his work with curiosity, precision and unwavering integrity.
While in Atlanta, Ed met the love of his life, Barbara, and the two were married in 1952. Their union, spanning 73 remarkable years, was a testament to devotion, partnership and enduring love. Together, they built a home filled with warmth, faith, and laughter, and were blessed with three children: Gordon David (Margie), Glenn Travis, and Rebecca Lynn.
Ed was a loving father, a faithful husband and a loyal friend. His steady presence, generous spirit and gentle wisdom touched all who knew him. He found joy in his family, pride in their accomplishments, and comfort in his steadfast faith.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Edwin and Marion. He is survived by his beloved wife Barbara; his children; his grandchildren Scott Hartley, Daniel Peller (Andrea), Ellis Hartley (Sarah), Alexander Bronk, Ashley Bronk, Kaelyn Hartley, and Christie Arias (Kevin); his great-grandchildren Catherine Hartley, Margaret Hartley, and Pierce Hartley; and his great-great-grandchild Dakota Hartley.
Ed's legacy lives on in the many lives he enriched through his kindness, mentorship, and unwavering love. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
