In Loving Memory of Hugh "Spencer" Tait Jr.
Hugh Spencer Tait Jr., known affectionately as Spencer, passed away peacefully on Nov. 13, 2025, in Brunswick. Born in 1928 at City Hospital in Brunswick to Hugh Spencer and Pearl Tait, Spencer spent his entire life in Glynn County. His spiritual journey began early in life, as he was baptized at First Baptist Church of Brunswick in 1940.
During the Korean War, Spencer served honorably in the United States Army, fulfilling the role of chief motor pool mechanic. After returning home from service, Spencer married Bonnie Moore. Together, they raised four children and celebrated 72 years of marriage. For 35 years, Spencer and Bonnie owned and operated Tait Feed and Seed Co. in Brunswick and Sterling, leaving a lasting legacy within the community.
Spencer is survived by his wife, Bonnie Tait; daughter, Ann Morgan (Barry); son, Tim Tait, (Nancy); grandchildren, Jennifer, Jayson (Becky), Jeff Stewart, Amber Thornton (Matt), Tyler Tait, Derek, Matt, Allie Morgan, Eliza Buice (Ryan) and Spencer Tait; and 11 great-grandchildren.
He is pre-deceased by his parents, daughter, Marsha Tait, son Trey Tait, and brother, Dick Tait.
Spencer will be fondly remembered for his wonderful sense of humor, his kindness toward others and his remarkable ability to repair almost anything - a skill affectionately referred to by his children as "Poppyfied."
Visitation will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 19 at First Baptist Church in Brunswick, followed by the funeral service at 11 a.m.
The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Spencer be directed to a charity or cause of your choosing.

Spencer Tait has been added to the Glynn Academy "Gone but Not Forgotten" list with the Class of '46. It is not known for certain if that is the exact year of his graduation. Our sympathies to Bonnie Moore Tait and the Tait family. No high school picture is available due to there being no yearbooks published after World War II until 1948.
