Jennie Doyle

Jennifer Deen "Jennie" Doyle was born on Aug. 22, 1947, in Brunswick, Ga., to Lorace and Elsie Deen.

Jennie graduated from Glynn Academy in 1965, and then attended Brunswick Junior College and the University of Georgia. She married the love of her life, Donald Egbert "Donny" Doyle, in 1968, and they welcomed daughter Amy the following year. Shortly thereafter, Donny, who served in the United States Army, was posted to Germany. Rather than waiting for him in Georgia, Jennie packed up the baby and flew to Germany. The family then traveled all over Europe in a silver Vega. Upon returning to the States, Jennie and her family moved to Atlanta so Donny could complete his graduate studies at Georgia Tech. Donny obtained employment with IBM in South Florida. But Jennie missed the Golden Isles and her friends and family terribly. In 1981, Jennie, Donny and Amy were able to return to St. Simons, where Jennie remained.

Jennie always had a flair for fashion, which helped her when she owned an upscale clothing boutique. She also had a green thumb, and worked at plant nurseries. But Jennie's true vocation in life was being a wife to Donny and a mother to Amy. After Amy left for college, Jennie became more involved with her parish at Christ Church, Frederica. Jennie served on multiple church guilds, including the altar guild. She also spent hours tending the plants surrounding Christ Church. Jennie may not always have sought the church's permission before digging in the dirt, but the parish grounds were made all the more beautiful by her landscaping efforts. Jennie loved good conversation, cooking, sewing, reading, shopping, Rummikub, trips to Cumberland Island and her dog Zelda. Her greatest joy, however, was spending time with family and friends, especially her three grandchildren.

On Oct. 31, 2020, Jennie suffered a stroke. She spent weeks in hospitals and rehabilitation facilities before suffering a second stroke. Following a brief stay in hospice, Jennie passed away on Dec. 26, 2020.

Jennie is preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Spencer and Douglas Deen; and her husband, Donny.

She is survived by her brother, Walton "Kayo" Deen; her daughter, Amy; her son-in-law, Andrew Hall; and her grandchildren, Alex, Duncan and Daphne; as well as many extended family. Jennie will be dearly missed by all.

An outdoor service for family and close friends will be conducted at 2 p.m. Dec. 31, 2020, at Christ Church Frederica.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Jennie's memory to the Christ Church Christmas Thanksgiving Fund or the Brooks Rehabilitation Aphasia Center.

Funeral services are being provided by Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home.

Jennie was a unique little lady whom I met while delivering Brunswick News. Then I learned her mother Ms. Elsie, lived around the corner from me. I could look out my window at night and see Ms. Elsie cruising the neighborhood. She would drive up in my drive way just to say hey. Jennie and I got close because of the love I have for her family. I could listen to her for hours talk about Amy. Lord she loved that little girl who grew up into a beautiful, smart, loving young lady. Boy she bragged and boasted and had every right to. She looked and realized Amy had grown up too fast for her at least. Amy goes off to college. So here I go trying to keep her busy so her pretty little redhead wouldn't do some "unmentionable" things out of boredom...What time I had with this wonderful, beautiful crazy lady I called a very dear friend was so exciting and funfilling not to mention the lasting impression it left in my heart.
I'm sending my prayers to you and your family Amy. Your mother will never be forgotten as long as I live. She is a rare jewel who I consider my friend for life and thereafter.
