Marvin Pipkin Obituary
Marvin Lamar Pipkin, husband of Carolyn Dowling Pipkin, passed away on Nov. 23, 2025, at the age of 84, on St. Simons Island.
Born on April 18, 1941, in Jacksonville Beach, Florida, he was the son of the late Rev.Walter Lamar Pipkin and Mildred Peddy Pipkin. Marvin grew up in Waycross. He graduated from Waycross High School in 1959 and earned an undergraduate degree from Mercer University in 1963. While a Mercer student, Marvin was a member of the men's tennis team, ROTC and Kappa Alpha Order.
After graduating from Mercer University School of Law in 1966, he went on to serve in the JAG Corps in the U.S. Army. In 1971, he moved to St. Simons where he practiced law for 54 years.
He loved his family, friends and especially his grandchildren. His passions included spending time on the Satilla River, fishing the backwaters of St. Simons and playing tennis. These activities were shared with his children, lifelong friends, the ATF Club and the local tennis community. At home, he was an avid reader and considered himself an argumentative philosopher. He also had a special relationship with the Southeastern Bank family. In addition, Marvin and Carolyn served at First Baptist Church, where they have been lifelong members.
Surviving, in addition to his wife of 60 years, is his brother, Kenneth Lake Pipkin (Mary); late sister, Margaret Pipkin Garner; daughter, Susan Pipkin Lisenby (Steve); sons, Dr. Walter Lamar Pipkin (Bayla) and Steven Lee Pipkin; and grandchildren, Bennet Ford Lisenby, Steven Emory Pipkin (Sarah), Elizabeth Pipkin Marchman (Brady) and William Clark Pipkin.
The funeral will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 29, at First Baptist Church St. Simons Island, followed by a reception in the fellowship hall.
