Matthew Howell
Matthew Steven Howell, age 55, of
Brunswick, Georgia, passed away on Tuesday, Nov. 25, 2025, at Southeast Georgia Health System's Brunswick Campus.
Born in Brunswick to Gordon and Connie Yawn Howell, Matthew grew up on the coast he loved. He graduated from Glynn Academy, Class of 1989, where he also achieved the distinguished rank of Eagle Scout, an early reflection of the discipline, leadership and service that would guide his life.
Following high school, Matthew proudly enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, serving four years with honor. After completing his military service, he moved to Atlanta, where he worked for Lockheed Martin and launched his own disc jockey business under the name "DJ Fly Money Otis." His energy, creativity and deep love of music brought joy to countless gatherings. When he returned to the Golden Isles in the late 1990s, he continued sharing his talents as a DJ at many local events and celebrations.
In the early 2000s, Matthew met and married, and was blessed with twins, Ethan and Lindsey, who remained the pride and center of his world. He later continued his commitment to service by joining the Air National Guard, where he served faithfully for many years prior to retirement.
Matthew is survived by his beloved twins, Ethan Lewis Howell of Brunswick and Lindsey Marie Howell of Augusta, Georgia; his parents, Gordon and Connie Howell of Brunswick; his sister, Paula Howell Smith of Vidalia, Georgia; and Melanie Campbell of Augusta, mother of his children. He is also survived by many extended family members and dear friends who will forever cherish his memory.
A service to celebrate Matthew's life will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 29 at 1:30 p.m. at Camp Tolochee on Blythe Island, 133 Ashley Marsh Drive, Brunswick. Burial with military honors will be in Georgia Veterans Cemetery and will be private.
Matthew will be remembered for his loyalty, humor, love of music, and unwavering dedication to his family and his country. His presence will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
