Nancy Reed Obituary

Nancy Reed

Nancy Kay Reed (Kukis), 72, of Jekyll Island, and formerly of Bath, Ohio passed away Monday, Dec. 13, 2021, at Memorial Health in Savannah.

Nancy was born June 30, 1949, in Cleveland, Ohio to Jean (Palmer) and Edward Kukis. She was Presbyterian by faith, a past member of Independence Presbyterian Church, Bath UCC, and the Jekyll Presbyterian Community Church. Before making Jekyll her permanent home, she and husband Jim vacationed there for many winters, and finally set down roots in 2015. Nancy loved gardening and being outdoors, earning her Ohio and Georgia master gardener certifications. She loved golfing the many courses on the island. In addition to her green thumb, she had a passion for traveling, and watching native and migrating birds. She rescued domestic rabbits, especially the more challenging ones. She was currently on her sixth rabbit rescue, Jamocha, from Gainesville, Fla. Nancy also adored her wonderful eight nieces, considering herself a professional aunt. Nancy spent 30 years with Ohio Bell/Ameritech in data systems. She was a proud follower and strong advocate of the traditions of Bill W for the past 38 years.

Left to cherish her memory is her loving husband of almost 52 years Jim Reed; mother, Jean Kukis; two sisters, Linda Fox (Michael) of Chagrin Falls, Ohio, and Donna Boss (Robert) of Solon, Ohio; brother-in-law, Thomas H. Reed (Betsy) of Mentor, Ohio; eight nieces; and many great-nieces and great-nephews.

Services will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Nancy's honor to the Cornell University Lab of Ornithology, or the Georgia Sea Turtle Center.

Chapman Funeral Chapel & Crematory is in charge of the arrangements.

I am lifting prayers for Nancy's soul journey and for strength and comfort for you Jim. Nancy defined the words "service to others" especially for friends of Bill. She will be missed.

I was shocked and devastated when I learned of Nancy´s passing. I am so very sorry for your loss, Jim. I loved Nancy and could not have asked for a dearer friend. I will never forget how much fun "Vi" and I had working together and golfing at Sleepy Hollow. You are in my thoughts and prayers.
