Dr. Robert Miller

Dr. Robert Henry Miller passed away peacefully on Sunday, Nov. 16 at the age of 83, surrounded by his loved ones. A devoted physician, he dedicated his life to the compassionate care of his patients, earning the respect and gratitude of all who had the privilege of knowing him. His career was not only a profession but a calling that he answered daily for over 58 years.

He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Diana (Mordokovich) Miller; their three children and seven grandchildren, David Miller and wife, Wendy, of Richmond, Virginia, and their children Camryn, Logan and Katelyn; Daniel Miller and wife, Jennifer, of St. Simons Island, and their children Holden, Annalise, Ethan and Aiden; and Georgi Miller of Miami Beach, Florida. Each of his children and grandchildren held a special place in his heart. The experiences we shared with him and memories they created together will continue to comfort and inspire us forever.

Born on March 3, 1942, in Providence, Rhode Island, Robert was the son of the late Himon and Florence Miller. He was a proud alumni of the University of Washington, where he met a pretty little Fulbright scholar from Uruguay and remained dedicated to her for the rest of his life. He was proud to have followed his father into a career in medicine and accomplished great things in his time as a physician. While in Washington, he helped pilot the first EMS system in the United States and wrote one of the first training manuals for EMTs and paramedics. He then helped start the emergency medicine residency program at Southern Illinois University in Springfield, Illinois.

He enjoyed teaching and continued to educate pre-hospital providers even after moving to St. Simons Island in 1980. Finally, he was one of four partners who opened one of the nation's first freestanding Urgent Care clinics, where he continued to see patients until his retirement in 2023. Beyond his work, he was a gifted guitarist and singer who filled family gatherings with music, sharing his wonderful voice and passion for song with all around him. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him, but his legacy of kindness, dedication, music and love will endure forever.

The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 19, 2025, at Temple Beth Tefilloh, followed by burial at Palmetto Cemetery.
