Sandra "Sandy" Grueser
Sandra Sue "Sandy" (Girod) Grueser, 83, of St. Simons Island, passed away on Wednesday, Nov. 5, 2025, at her home on Wymberly Drive on St. Simons Island.
The funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 11, 2025, in the chapel of Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home with Heidi Grueser officiating. Interment will follow in Oglethorpe Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Monday, Nov. 10, 2025, at Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home.
Sandy was born on March 29, 1942, to Ernest and Ruth (Hartup) Girod in Urbana, Ohio. She grew up in Lebanon, Ohio where she attended Lebanon schools, Lebanon Methodist Church, was a member of Rainbow Girls and a Worthy Advisor. She attended Lebanon schools graduating in 1960, and then attended Ohio University, graduating with a degree in speech and hearing therapy.
Sandy worked at Barney's Hospital in Dayton, Ohio, in the deaf nurseries until she married Charles Edward Grueser on Jan. 29, 1966. Sandy was involved with therapy until the birth of her children who then took priority, Amy Dow, Heidi Rene, Charles Edward III (Ted), and Jeremy Girod. She worked in the Reynoldsburg United Methodist Preschool for 12 years with three- and four-year-old children. After moving to St. Simons Island in 1996, Sandy continued working for 13 years with the preschoolers in the Wesley United Methodist Preschool.
Sandy was preceded in death by her parents; and her, brother Kim.
Sandy is survived by her husband of 59 years; daughters, Amy Dow Pitchford (Tom) and Heidi Rene Grueser; sons, Charles Edward Grueser III and Jeremy Girod Grueser (Nikki); 12 grandchildren, Charli Su Neeka Caldwell (Will), Samantha Andino (Natalia), Charles Edward Riley Grueser IV (Miranda), Deklan Grueser, Hannah Loebis (Mica), Elizabeth Harris (J.T.), Mackenzie Pistelli (Tanner), Sophie Grueser, Jonah Grueser, Micah Grueser, Koral Grueser and Gracie K. Grueser; and five great grandchildren.
