William Lewis Obituary

William Lewis

William Franklin Lewis, fondly known as Billy, was born Oct. 8, 1944, in Tarboro, North Carolina, and peacefully passed away on Friday, Aug. 15, 2025.

Billy shared 50 wonderful years of marriage with his beloved wife, Linda Faye Lewis, until her passing on March 6, 2014.

He is survived by his loving daughter, Janet Lewis Morris; son-in-law, Jack Crawford Morris Jr.; and cherished granddaughter, Madisyn Webber Morris. He also leaves behind his sister-in-law, Joann Harrell; brother-in-law, Charlie Harrell; and many nieces and nephews who will miss him dearly.

A proud graduate of Leggett High School, Billy began his career with Carolina Enterprises before joining CSX Railroad. His work took him to Rocky Mount, North Carolina, Hamlet, North Carolina, and later to Waycross, where he spent the remainder of his career before retiring. Billy made his home in Brunswick for many years with his wife, daughter, son-in-law and granddaughter, before returning to his hometown of Tarboro, where he lived until his passing.

Billy will be remembered as a devoted husband, father and grandfather who found joy in the simple pleasures of life. He especially loved fishing and riding his motorcycle - hobbies that brought him peace and happiness throughout the years.

A graveside memorial will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 30, 2025, at Edgecombe Memorial Park, U.S. Highway 258, in Tarboro.

Carlisle Funeral Home, 701 Hospital Drive, Tarboro, is handing the arrangements.
