Andre Marcel Pompey
Andre Marcel Pompey, 77, of Salinas, passed away Saturday, October 19, 2013, at Salinas Valley Memorial Hospital. He was born July 20, 1936, in Pont a Mousson, France.
Andre served in the French Army during the Algerian War in 1957.
Andre and his family immigrated to the United States of America in 1961 from France. He later became an American citizen. Andre was well-known in Salinas as a car mechanic and in France as a masonry. Andre belonged to the Knights of Columbus and The Salinas Elks's Lodge. He lived life with passion and was a devout Catholic.
He was preceded in death by his father, Henri Pompey; mother, Marie-Louise Pompey; brothers, Henry Pompey, Yvon Pompey; sister, Maryvonne Baptista and three brothers-in-law, Robert Pyryl, Francis Kuehl, and Robert Thomassin.
Andre is survived by his wife, Lorraine Pompey; daughter, Jan Marie (Kurtis) Calendar; sons, Andre Pompey, Jr., Andrew Neuhaus-Pompey; sisters, Lea Thomassin, Suzanne Pyryl of Salinas, Lydie (Jim) Spangler of DuQoin, IL., Josiane Barnett of Sacramento, Nicole Kuehl of Salinas; brothers, Alain (Irmgard) Pompey, Marcel (Vickie) Pompey of Salinas; five grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral Mass will be Thursday, October 24, 2013 at 1:00 p.m., at Madonna Del Sasso Church, 320 E. Laurel Dr., Salinas, CA 93906.
Burial to follow at Garden of Memories Cemetery, 850 Abbott St., Salinas, CA 93901.

Andre was a great man! he took my family in like his own,you always had a hot meal on the table, your door was always open, and you took care of our Grandma. You will be dearly missed. We love you Papa!
