Carrie Lopez Obituary

Carrie J. Lopez

Peoria, AZ - Carrie J. Lopez lived a life of loyalty and sacrifice for those she loved most. Now our dear mother, grandmother and great grandmother, a woman guided by her faith in Jesus, rests in Heaven.

She passed away at 77 on Tuesday, May 1, in Peoria, Ariz. She died peacefully in her sleep.

She was born Aug. 30, 1940, in Los Angeles. She lived in Phoenix but spent most of her life in Soledad, where she made a family and raised her kids. She worked hard for many years at Maggios Packing and Mann Packing until she retired. She marched with United Farm Workers co-founder and civil rights leader Cesar Chavez.

As a dedicated grandmother, she attended countless Little League and high school football games, wrestling matches, recitals, and graduations. She was always there, often after a long day's work. She loved Bingo, going to casinos, and playing Yahtzee and the card game "31" with her family.

She was an avid Dodgers fan who never missed a game on TV. "I love my boys in blue, win or lose," she would always say.

She is survived by her five children - Jesse "Yogi" Lopez (wife Jeannie), Hope Morales (husband Chopper), Jackie Lopez (wife Lisa), Cindy Atilano (husband Richard), and Sylvia Banuelos (husband Manuel). She is also survived by her 12 grandchildren - Joaquin Morales, Simon Samano (wife Allison), Andrea Diaz, Regina Samano, Michan Morales, Erik Lopez, Jacob Diaz, Ally Armendariz (husband Jason), Carlos Morales, Marissa Lopez, Jessica Samano, and Jordan Diaz. She also leaves behind eight great grandchildren who she loved dearly - Julian, Mia, Frankie, Audrina, Josiah, Hilo, Keno, and Haven. She will be deeply missed but always in our hearts.

Funeral mass will be held Monday, May 28, at 10 a.m., St. Theodore's Catholic Church in Gonzales.

Mom I hate Tuesdays, reminds me of the morning I got the call that you had left us to go onto a better life of eternity in Heaven. I miss you everyday...coming home to an empty house and no more Dodger games hearing you cheer on your Boys in Blue. I love you Mom.....

Yogi, very sorry to hear of the passing of your mom. I remember when she was our boss when we worked at the liquor store in Soledad many years ago. Your mom was a nice lady. Prayers to you and all the Lopez family

When I think of Carrie, I will always see her laughing. Seems we were always enjoying good food, good conversation and lots of laughter. I think what I will remember the most about Carrie is playing cards. We had so much fun and the laughing was non stop. Carrie was so loved and will surely be missed. However, I'm sure we will all have to smile when we think of the joy she brought into our lives. Rest in Peace Dear Friend.

Grandma Carrie was the best. She had a big heart. She loved her family so much all of us. She was a joy to be around. So many laughs and so many great memories. All of our Giants-Dodgers bickering at each other. I miss her so much. I can't believe she's gone, but I take a little bit of comfort knowing she's in Heaven. She's in paradise now. But I'd give anything to feel just one more bear hug. I LOVE YOU SO MUCH, GRANDMA. Forever and ever. Always in my heart.

Mother you are forever in my heart. I will always cherish playing Yahtzee all day from the moment we woke up until bedtime. (Penny a point). I will also remember playing bingo all day and then hitting the slot machines thereafter. Mom you made the best breakfasts too. RIP
