Catherine H. Albert, better known as Kay Albert, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, March 28, 2016. Kay was born Sept. 2, 1922 in Oakland and grew up in Richmond.
She married the love of her life, Dimas Albert, Jr. in Jan. 1944, in Monterey. They lived in Monterey for six years before moving to Salinas, where she lived for the rest of her life.
Kay was an elementary school secretary for 30 years, first at Santa Lucia (Kammann) and then at Los Padres. Students, parents and staff affectionately called her "Miss Kay". She loved working at both schools because of the children. After she retired, she volunteered for the RIF (Reading is Fundemental) Program at Los Padres Elementary School for several years. Kay also was a volunteer for several years at the Steinbeck Home Best Cellar's Gift Shop. In addition, she volunteered to help run the office at Active Seniors, Inc. for more than 30 years. During those years she also served as the Assistant Tour Director. A few years after which she became the Head Tour Director; a position she held for 20 years. She led active seniors on numerous trips to all the continents except Antarctica! She loved trips and felt so very fortunate for the opportunity to travel to so many interesting places all over the world. Kay was a member of the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, where she was a longtime member of the Mary Martha Women's Circle.
The Family wishes to thank her Hospice team, especially Maria Perez, who provided Kay with exceptionally professional and loving care during the past four and a half months.
Kay is survived by her son, Dimas F. Albert (Marjean) of Salinas; daughter, Jeannie James (David) of Fairbanks, AK; grandchildren, Carrie Aragon (Brenden) of Salinas, Katie Etheridge (Charles) of Watsonville, Daniel James of Seattle, WA, Annie Titus (Matthew) of Fairbanks, AK, and five great-grandchildren, Claire and Padraig Aragon, Terran and Kerrigan Titus, and Kiara Etheridge.
Kay was preceded in death by her husband, Dimas Albert, Jr. on Feb. 26, 1970, and her parents, Leland and Fannie Hulbert.
Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, April 4, 2016, at the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, 580 Larkin St., Salinas.
In lieu of flowers, the Family has asked that donations may be made in Kay's memory to the Heartland Hospice, 2511 Garden Rd., Ste. A-250, Monterey, CA 93940-5331, or the charity of your choice.

Kay and my mom Dorothy were such good friends for so many years. When they were both still in good health, they laughed often together, usually in short bursts that sounded like something between between riotous and hysterical. They cracked each other up a lot and I can hear their laughter now. The summer after my freshman year in high school, Kay gave me the first album I ever owned -- Carole King's Tapestry -- and to this day I have yet to hear another I enjoy more or that stirs so many feelings and memories. Kay was generous and true, an extraordinary person, a great friend of our family, along with all the Alberts, and the Frassettos will forever hold her memory dear.

I remember miss Kay at Los Padres loved her to pieces she was my favorite person always had wonderful talks with her even after I left and went to Jr high and high school and after I had my first child always went by to say hi and let her know how we all were doing. She always had a smile and a kind word and a big hug, she always liked to pinch the little ones cheeks what a sweet lady. Rest in piece Miss Kay my condolences to the family. Miss Kay was such a wonderful person ans she will be missed. She was the school secretary at Santa Lucia school in the 50s. I used to go visit her there and she was always so nice to me. I am so very sorry to hear about Kay. She was a wonderful lady and I just loved seeing her in church every Sunday when I was at Good Shepherd. She had always typed up some really neat thank you cards for me when I was in WELCA. I'm sure she will be missed greatly. Thoughts and prayers to her family.

The Holzwart family has many wonderful memories shared together as our children grew into adults The most memorable days were those shared as our children went to Kamman School together and remained friends to this day! We love you Kay, and you will be missed.
