Herbert Healey Obituary

SALINAS

Herbert C. Healey Jr., 85, of Salinas, passed away peacefully Wednesday, Feb. 17, 2010, at home.
He was born Sept. 25, 1924, in Oakland. Herb served during World War II in the 511th Parachute Regiment. Herb was the founder of the Healey Mortuary which was established in 1956 as the Salinas Valley Mortuary. The mortuary was soon renamed to the Healey Mortuary and has been proudly serving the Salinas Valley Communities since. Herb's "can do" attitude and tireless work ethic enabled the mortuary to grow through several remodeling projects over the past fifty years.
Herb was a member of the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, the Masonic Lodge F&AM No. 204, and the Order of the Eastern Star. He was a former member of the Elk's Lodge BPOE No. 614 in Salinas, and the Moose Lodge No. 1165. He was a proud member of the NRA. As a pilot, Herb was a member of the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association, and the Flying Funeral Director's of America. Herb was also a long standing member of the California Funeral Director Association.
Herb enjoyed flying his plane, had a great love for the outdoors, loved to travel, and especially loved playing poker with many of his long time friends and associates. He will be dearly missed and fondly remembered.

I remember Herb as being a straightforward man in a society in which many hid behind their feelings. He had social nuances down to a science, and wasn't afraid to work without receiving credit. I admired that...still do.

David,
Lori (Sinosource) called me to tell me of your dad's passing and I wanted to say how sorry I am. I had no idea of his age until I read the obit - his attitudes about life and business were so young and always visionary. I was blessed to have known him.
