Ken Richards

Ken Richards passed away Sunday, June 13, 2021, in Santa Cruz, CA. He was 69. He leaves behind his wife Maya (Amelia) Richards of 44 years.

Born to Joe and Doris Richards. Ken lived his life in the Santa Cruz and Monterey County areas and graduated from Watsonville High School in 1970. Ken was active throughout his life. He played numerous sports including rugby, basketball, track, and softball. He also enjoyed coaching his daughters' softball teams.

In retirement, Ken took up hiking in Yosemite and the John Muir trail, fishing in Alaska and being a season ticket holder to the SF Giants.

Ken worked for PG&E for 38 years. Starting his career in the Santa Cruz gas department, then moved to Salinas electrical division and ended his career as manager of the Watsonville PG&E yard like his father. He served as union representative and was a lead on the joint task force for implementation of the rubber glove work technique for PG&E.

In addition to Maya, Ken is survived by his daughters Karissa (Jason) Keen, Kathryn (Jeffrey) Hook, and four grandchildren Jianna, Jenna, Kenny, and Andrew.

A Memorial Service for Ken will be held June 21, 2021, at Mehls Chapel in Watsonville, at 11 am.

So sad to see this. I worked with Ken at PGE. He was the definition of a stand up guy. Fun to be around,thoughtful,smart and a team player. Always had a good time with him. Won’t forget him.

Friendship, in the beginning you are drawn together by a common factor, Be it sports, life philosophy, music or even living in the same neighborhood. A friendship will grow and become a part of your life. This is a bonding that reinforces a friendship. Your life is added with experiences and lessons you keep forever. The memories we have of a friendship helps enriches our lives. The "Big Guy", as we called him, has helped me ,as to who I am by being Ken's friend. We will miss him.
