Keri Rothhouse

Salinas - Keri Rothhouse, 55, lifelong resident of Salinas, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, June 11, 2021 after battling kidney cancer for 12 years with an unfathomable amount of strength. Her husband and her two daughters were by her side.

Keri was born April 29, 1966. A third-generation graduate of Salinas High School, class of 1984, she played basketball, did cheerleading and was the ultimate social butterfly. After stints at Hartnell and UCLA, she went on to earn a BA in Speech Communication at California State University, Fresno.

On August 28, 1993, Keri married Ken Rothhouse (the same date as her parents' wedding anniversary). They met at the local news station KCBA Fox 35, where Keri worked in advertising sales and Ken was the sportscaster. They've been together as happily married as any two people could be for nearly 28 years.

Following her 8 years as an Account Executive at KCBA, Keri went on to have an impressive list of part time jobs. In the Salinas agriculture industry, she did 3 years as the Marketing Event Planner at Progeny Advanced Genetics and 5 years as the Sales Assistant to the Head Produce Broker at Veg Service, Inc.. In education, she served as a substitute teacher for the Washington Union School District for 2 years, created Rothhouse Reading Room, a private reading tutoring service for elementary aged kids that she ran for 6 years, and was a librarian at Palma High School for 3 years. Additionally, she co-founded "South Pa Sweets' with her sister, where she sold her famous "No-Nut Cookies." For 28 years, she was also the most thoughtful, detail-oriented homemaker helping with her daughters school and sports (including travel sports) whenever possible.

She lived her life as normally as possible despite her cancer--if you didn't know, you wouldn't have known. Her favorite vacation spots were the family condo in Palm Desert where she had decades of memories with dear friends and family, the cabin in Cachagua, and occasionally to Kauai too. Any celebration or special event was made brighter, louder, more fun and joyful by her presence--especially if there was good champagne and good charcuterie. She enjoyed many Giants games, Cal and University of Oregon tailgates, and watching the Warriors and 49ers.

A radiant, loving wife, mother, daughter, sister, aunt, and friend. She will be deeply missed by all.

She was preceded in death by her father, Denny Bertelsman.

Keri is survived by her husband, Ken Rothhouse; daughters, Kelsey and Kylie Rothhouse; mother, Arlene Bertelsman; sisters Julie Shanagher (Denis), and Susie Doss (Dan). Nieces and nephews Katie and Denis Shanagher; Brad, Chris, and Paige Granger; and Will Doss.

A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, June 26 at 11:00am, at Cypress Church 681 Monterey Salinas Hwy, Salinas, CA 93908.

Mrs. A.Bertelsman, Julie, Susie, Mr. Ken Rothhouse, Kelsey and Kylie along with the entire family of Keri.

It is with a heartfelt sense of sadness that our family is reaching out. Many years have passed, yet the obituary for Keri expressed a beautiful description of a life well lived.

Many a meal has been complemented with memories of the three Bertelsman girls visiting our home on Enos Drive.

Blessings to your family from ours.
