Lois Laura Deaner
Salinas - Lois Laura Deaner reached the end of her life's journey. She passed away peacefully in the comfort of her own home in Salinas on May 30, 2021. Born 04/15/1923 to Martye Mattie Vandermay and Lester Ordell Longbrake Sr. She was born in Los Angeles California and moved to Salinas in 1955 where she lived for 66 years. After graduating High School Lois attended nursing school for two years. She joined the Navy and was a Wave (Nurse) during World War II (1944-1947). After the War she met the love of her life Forrest Deaner with whom she had 7 children. She worked as a Nurse at Natividad Hospital and later worked at the Katherine Convalescent Hospital for 10 years. Lois was an active member of the First United Methodist Church which she has attended religiously since 1957. Every Sunday after church she enjoyed tea time with her church friends and eating out with her family. Lois enjoyed going to garage and rummage sales in search for unique items as she would put it. On other days Lois would care for her many grandkids and enjoyed watching Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune. She also enjoyed going for walks everyday, doing crossword puzzles and word searches. While her children were growing up she signed them up for Girl Scouts and Campfire. One year she even became the CampFire Leader which the children enjoyed. Lois enjoyed sewing costumes for her children and grandchildren as they were growing up. She also loved embroidering handkerchiefs and pillowcases. She started a tradition with her family of sewing Christmas stockings for her grandchildren which they have continued to this day.
Lois is preceded in death by her brother Lester Longbrake, son Todd Deaner and daughter Terrie Deaner.
Lois is survived by her children Cheryl Ann Deaner Wilson, Gregory Deaner, Suzanne Deaner Prevatt, Hali Deaner Woods, and Monique Deaner. Lois had 9 grandchildren, Kimberly Skinner, Adlanta (Mario) Pizano, Jason Skinner, Andrew Turnbull, Trenton Moore, Stephen (Christen) Prevatt, Cory (Caitlin) Prevatt, Laura Prevatt, Christopher Prevatt. Lois had 9 great grandchildren, Andrina Derbyshire, Tyler Osborn, Atheana Zubiate, Sydney Osborn, Israel Zayden Zubiate, Maddison Osborn, Zoey Zubiate, Aleena Pizano and Amelia Prevatt.
A viewing will be held at Struve and Laporte Funeral Home on Friday, June 11th from 10:30-12:30 at 41 West San Luis Street Salinas Ca 93901. Following the viewing, a Celebration of her life will be held at the First United Methodist Church, 404 Lincoln Avenue, Salinas, CA. at 1:00pm.
The burial with Navy Honors will be on Monday June 14th at 11:00am at the New Fort Ord Cemetery ,California Central Coast Veterans Cemetery located at 2900 Parker Flats Cut Off Rd, Seaside, CA 93955.
