Rudolph Sanchez Obituary

SALINAS
Rudolph A.C. Sanchez was a 911 dispatch
er affectionately known as "Say Again" Sanchez by the police officers, firefighter and emergency response personnel of Monterey County and the surrounding counties, passed away April 23, 2009 just after 4 AM at the age of 84. Rudy began his depatching career in 1964 with Monterey County's communication center, becoming the first dispatcher to transfer to the new Communication Center when it was relocated into the Monterey County Courthouse basement in the 70's. Rudy also enjoyed driving a school bus for the Prunedale School District. It was important to him to teach children to enjoy life and to make them laugh.
Born Rudolph Alexander Cano Sanchez on July 15, 1924 in Oakland, CA, the eldest son of Philip and Jennie Cano Sanchez, both of Arizona, Rudy married Monica Garza on July 12, 1951. Rudy is survived by wife and their five children: Marlene M. Robison and her husband Larry Sr., Michael Sanchez Sr. and his wife, Tonya, Mary Ann Sanchez Houlihan, Sandra Jean Lemos, and Daniel Sanchez and his wife Tracie. Rudy is also survived by his grandchildren, Kristie Sikora and her husband Joe, Larry Robison Jr., Michael Sanchez Jr., Christopher Sanchez and his wife Kay, Jennifer Sanchez, Shara Bengel and her husband Justin, Shannon Baer and her husband Joel, Stephen Houlihan, Amanda Lemos, Steven Lemos, Danette Sanchez, DJ Sanchez and his wife Carmen, and two great grandchildren, Angel Sanchez and Keira Sanchez. Rudy is also survived by his siblings, Rueben Sanchez and his wife Natalie, Gloria Luna and her husband Rudy, Connie Bustemonte and her husband Paul, and Philip Sanchez and his wife Sixta. Rudy's last request was that he did not want anyone to mourn his passing, but instead, to celebrate his life. His legacy to his children, extended family, and numerous friends was the gift of laughter and a desire to create a happier world. While he took his position as a dispatcher very seriously, his career was not without its lighter moments when he and those he served with, played pranks on one another to remind themselves that there was a time for laughter after facing the hardships of their chosen professions. the family wishes to thank all of those friends and acquaintances who expressed the same message during his lengthy illness and after his passing, "He will be greatly missed."He made us laugh."

My condolences to the family of Rudy Sanchez. I worked with Rudy at 911 during the 1970's. Rudy was always pleasant and kept a smile on his face. He was well liked by all in the law enforcement community

Tio Lex,
At the end of our journey here on Earth, one is to ask what we left behind. Even though I didn't have the fortune to have seen or visited often due to the miles between us, your sweet smile and joyous laughter will forever remain in my heart. May you find peace and love in the Gardens of Heaven and continue to bring happiness to those around you with your beautiful laughter. Until we see each other again.

Sandy, Danny, Mary. Our hearts are with you and all your family. Mr. Sanchez was such a wonderful person and I almost felt like he was Warren cleaver. He was the sweetest man I know and I was blessed to have him in my path of life. One day I will see him again and be blessed again! Helen Lemos Flores

Dear Sanchez Family,

Please accept my condolences at the passing of this wonderful man. I will always remember Tio Lex for his "hi Mija" that always came with a big hug and kiss, his smile, and that he was one of the few relatives as short as me. Like all of us, he made me feel special. I used to love to watch him and Monica dance. (That was one family talent that was not passed to this part of the Sanchez/Zermeno tree.)
