Frank Burgess Obituary
Frank Micheal Burgess
December 27 1941 - February 28, 2024
After a long battle with so many things that can go wrong with one's body, Michael let go of his place in this world in February and moved on to his next journey. We always had an eye on this special guy because he lived much of his life hanging with "Walter Mitty" imagining all the possibilities ! Born on Santa Catalina Island in his grandfather's home on upper East Whitley to Frank and Aileen (Hall) Burgess, Michael capitalized on most everything Catalina! As an avid sailor he and his family returned back every few years to engage in life with the hills, the ocean, the town and especially the people. Always on a mission he was especially proud of his contribution in getting the Chimes restored and loved listening to their beautiful sounds. Proud of his British heritage and a fan of the Scottish traditions, Michael learned to play the bagpipes and played at many Scottish festivals on the Island.
In later life, always insisting he be identified by his proper name when entering new groups he would simply state " I am Michael"which took among new friends! Trained as a Corpsman in the U.S. Navy, Michael took those skills into the private health care sector. and established a long and fulfilling career as a Cardiovascular Perfusionist used with open heart surgery! Michael worked with teams at St Mary's and the VA in Long Beach and at Hoag Hospital in Newport Beach! He leaves behind his wife Dolly, son's Ian (Eden)and Neal (Monica), grandchildren Alexis, Noah, Andrea and Leah, sisters Connie (Lauren) and Vicki (John) niece Meghan ((Jorge) and their daughters Ellery and Lyla! He also leaves cousins Bobby Crowder, Jani and Karen Hall, and Josee, Heimata and Vaiteria Hall in Morrea, Tahiti.
Michael's farewell Celebration will be held October 26, 2024, at 1 PM at his Catalina home at 103 Vieudelou! Please, for the purpose of planning, if you will be attending RSVP to Connie Burgess on her FB site, or text to, or call 310-365-8813 and leave your name and the number of guests in your party. As you may know parking is somewhere around minus 10. If you need a ride call us ahead of time or when you RSVP and we will come and collect you! BTW if any of you happen to see Walter Mitty in your travels please invite him to come along! He really shouldn't miss this! Mikie was so loved by us all.
