Leslie Shannon Obituary

Leslie passed quietly in the early morning hours of December 12th at the Avalon Hospital. She is survived by her daughter Peggy Shannon-McDowell, son-in-law Tim McDowell and her two grandsons, Cody and Benjamin McDowell. Preceded in death are her son Michael Joseph Shannon and her husband John Frances Shannon.
Born Leslie Clair Noel in Chicago, she would later spend her formative years in Omaha with her mother and aunts. It was here she attended Creighton University, and where she would meet her husband John Shannon. They were married on September 4th, 1954.
John would later become a Lieutenant Colonel in the United States Army, which required constant relocation throughout the country. While stationed in Detroit in 1957, they welcomed their first child, Michael Joseph, on August 14th. While stationed in Stuttgart, Germany, in 1959, they would adopt their second child Margaret Mary, whom they lovingly called Peggy.
John was deployed in Vietnam throughout the 1960s. During his absence, Leslie would bring their children to Avalon. After John retired from the military in 1974, the family settled in Ashland, Oregon. Eventually they would come back to Avalon in 1992, where they both remained active parts of the community until death.
Leslie was a rare beauty. Her long life and love affected many people, and she was never without a kind word or witty remark. She was a masterful piano player, a fierce bridge player and a loyal friend. We are truly blessed to have had her in our lives.
Services for Leslie will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, January, 18th, 2019 at St. Catherine's Catholic Church, followed by a graveside service at the Avalon cemetery.

I only met Leslie twice in my life, but she
was my cousin Jack Shannon's wife. I'm so
glad I met Jack and Leslie for lunch one day
when I was living in Port Richey, FL. She
seemed like a lovely person. Now she has
back with Jack once again.
