WINDHAM
Dale Marion Hammon, 98, passed away on Monday October 13, 2025, at his home in Windham. He was bornin Fostoria, Kansas,in 1927.
Dale was an extraordinary individual. As a child his family moved often. He attended over two dozen different grammar schools. After high school he enlisted in the Navy. He was proud that he achieved the highest score on the enlistment board. He served honorably on the aircraft carrier Princeton as WWII ended. He returned to Bloomingdale, Michigan, and married his high school sweetheart Delores Blust. He worked at Fuller Manufacturing, Kalamazoo, Michigan where he was awarded several patents used in the manufacture of heavy-duty transmissions. As a young man, he owned and flew airplanes, raced stock cars, built and sailed boats. He was an avid fisherman and hunter hunting large and small game across the United States
and Canda. A prolific shotgun competitor, he was still competitive until just a few years ago. In 1962, Dale relocated his family from Michigan to Connecticut to join United Nuclear Corporation building nuclear reactors for U.S. Navy submarines. He was an expert in the machining of exotic metals used in the reactors. After several years there, he left for UARCO in Deep River, CT. He retired as plant engineer in 1968.After retirement he continued to sail the Seabird, build furniture, helped anyone who asked for it, and became a Born-Again Christian. He used his knowledge and many skills to help First Congregational Church in Windham Center, CT.
Dale is survived by his four sons, Bill, Marty, Jim, and Tom and their wives, eight grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren, and nine great-great-grandchildren; his sister, Jean Ely, who has been his primary health care provider over the last several years.Dale was predeceased by his wife of 76 years, Delores (Dee) Blust Hammon, brothers, Martin and Bruce, sister, Norma and one grandson.
He will be greatly missed by family and friends for his encouragement and always ready-to-help attitude and his many sayings like who has more fun than people.
Burial will take place at the Windham Center Cemetery.

Dale's family will receive relatives and friends on Monday, October 20, 2025 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at
Potter Funeral Home, 456 Jackson St., Willimantic. His funeral service will be held on Tuesday, October 21, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. at the First Congregational Church, 4 Windham Center Rd., Windham, with burial to follow at the Windham Center Cemetery.
