Giacomo Guarnaccia Obituary

MANSFIELD

Giacomo Jack Guarnaccia, Jr. of Mansfield, CT passed away on February 29, 2024. He was born July 7, 1948 in Windham, CT to Giacomo Guarnaccia, Sr. and Rose Ferro. He grew up in Mansfield, CT and attended E.O. Smith High School. Jack earned his Bachelor of Arts Degree from Gannon College in 1970 and graduated with his Juris Doctor Degree from the Marshall-Wythe School of Law at the College of William and Mary in 1973. He married the love of his life Louise Marie Durr of Chesterfield Township, NJ and moved to Willimantic, CT following his graduation. He was admitted to the Connecticut Bar in 1974, the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit in 1975, and the U.S. District Court for the District of Connecticut in 1976. He was a founding member of the firm that is known today as Guarnaccia, Connors, Kalom & Zorn, LLC and focused his practice on elder law, commercial and residential real estate, estates and probate, and estate planning.

Jack was a member of the Connecticut and Windham County Bar Associations, and the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys. He is a past president of the Windham County Bar Association from 2010-2012. He was a former member of the Connecticut Bar Examining Committee. From 1997-2008, Jack was a member of the Board of Directors of the Connecticut Attorneys Title Insurance Company (CATIC), and served on the Board of the CATIC Foundation, Inc. During the many years he lived in Willimantic and Mansfield, Jack was active in local affairs, serving as Chairman of the Windham Charter Revision Commission, Director of the Windham Chamber of Commerce, President of the Greater Willimantic Chamber of Commerce, and Director and Chairperson of the Northeast Connecticut Economic Alliance, Inc. Jack served on many Boards and Commissions including the Willimantic YMCA, Windham Region United Way, Willimantic Community Development Agency, Windham Mills Development Corporation, Windham Hospital, St. Joseph Parish Council, St. Mary St. Joseph School Board, and St. Joseph living Center. He was also a long standing member of the Elks. He was honored for his work by many organizations in Windham and Manchester.

Jack spent the latter part of his life between his two homes in Mansfield and South Kingston, RI. Jack treasured his time with his two children and three grandchildren, taking family trips across the world, creating gourmet meals and entertaining, and spending as much time on and near the water, fishing, clamming, and savoring the sights and smells of the ocean. Jack was proud of his 47 years of service to Norwich Power Squadron and his Navigator certification.

Jack is survived by his daughter, Elizabeth Namba and her husband, Nicholas of Arlington, VA; son, Anthony Guarnaccia and his wife, Melissa of Minneapolis, MN; much loved and adored grandchildren, Max, Alex, and Olive. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews; grand-nieces and nephews; and great-grand nieces and nephews. Jack was predeceased by his parents and wife, Louise.

Jack's family will receive relatives and friends on Thursday, March 7, 2024 at Potter Funeral Home, 456 Jackson St. (Rte. 195), Willimantic from 3:00 p.m.-5:00 p.m. His Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, March 8, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Church, 99 Jackson St., Willimantic. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Jack's memory to the The Rhode Island Saltwater Anglers Foundation, which establishes memorial fishing grounds and sponsors youth fishing opportunities for the next generation of anglers.
