Sylvia Mae Capwell Curry; (May 3, 1932 - Sept 12, 2025)
Passed at home at the age of 93 after a brief illness
She was pre-deceased by her husband, Thomas Frederick Curry Sr.
She is survived by four sons, Stephen Thomas (Cynthia) Curry, Keith Frederick (Melanie) Curry, David Warfield (Marcella) Curry, Thomas Frederick (Anne) Curry, Jr., and five grandchildren: Joshua, Jennifer, Emily, Brewster, Alison: and eight great- grandchildren: Rudi, Thomas, Robert, Haley, Layla, Levi, Benjamin, and Jacob, and her sister, Carolyn Capwell Gammell and nieces and nephews and their families.
Sylvia was the daughter of the late Mary Gertrude Anderson
and William D Capwell. She was born in Providence Rhode Island and lived in Coventry Rhode Island, where she graduated from high school. She attended the University of Rhode Island and graduated from Eastern CT State University with a B.A degree in Early Childhood Education. She received her M.S. in Education from The University of Connecticut in Storrs. Sylvia taught at the Pomfret Community School for 15 years, later teaching at HeadStart schools in Eastern CT.
Sylvia served as an interpreter guide at Old Sturbridge Village in Sturbridge MA and as a docent at the Nathan Hale
Homestead in Coventry CT.
She remained an active member of the Hampton Congregational Church for over 60 years where she served on every committee in some capacity. She was also a
member of the Hampton Seniors (that she and Fred helped to establish) and the Hampton Antiquarian and Historical Society.
Her other creative and artistic activities were in the study of Early American decorative arts such as, stenciling, theorem painting, rug hooking, and she was an avid gardener. She was probably best known for being a great hostess as she loved entertaining guests with pizazz, and then leading them through her beautiful gardenscapes.
There will be a Church service at the Hampton Congregational Church on Saturday October 4 at 2pm.. with a reception immediately following in Holt Hall, which is attached to the Church.
