Chris Gray Obituary

The measure of a man is not found in what he gains, but in what he gives in his time here.

Chris Eugene Gray, 50, of Pearl, MS, gave his love, his time, and his heart to his family, his faith, and his mission. He didn't just live, he made life better for everyone around him. As a devoted husband, an adoring father, and a man whose faith called him to serve, Chris lived with purpose and passion. On March 21, 2025, his earthly journey ended, but his story of love and unwavering dedication will continue in the lives he forever changed.

Chris was a devoted husband to Andrea for 25 years, built on faith, unwavering support, and deep commitment. Their love story began at Temple Baptist Church in Hattiesburg and grew as they journeyed through different parts of Tennessee before settling back home in Mississippi. Through every move and season of life, Andrea was his rock, his greatest encourager, and the love of his life, standing beside him with steadfast devotion. Their marriage was a partnership rooted in selflessness, laughter, and an unbreakable bond. Andrea loved and supported Chris through every dream he pursued, every challenge he faced, and every joy they shared. Together, they built a life filled with faith, love, and an abiding commitment to one another. Chris was also a proud father to Hannah Claire and Ava, loving them BIG, WELL, and UNWAVERING. Always present, he shaped their futures with faith and devotion. His legacy is one of enduring love with a marriage and family built on faith, strength, and a commitment that will continue to guide them.

As the founder of Zacchaeus Tree Ministry, Chris poured his heart into supporting adoptive and foster families throughout Mississippi. His tireless advocacy for children earned him the prestigious "Angels in Adoption" award from the Congressional Coalition, presented by Senator Cindy Hyde-Smith. Recognized as Mississippi's leading advocate for adoption and orphan care, Chris' life was defined by his deep compassion and commitment to ensuring every child was seen, loved, and valued. His ministry was built on the words of James 1:27, "Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world."

Chris was born on October 29, 1974, to Ricky and Jewell Faye Gray, and from the very beginning, family was at the heart of his life. He was deeply shaped by the love and support of his parents, as well as the strong bond he shared with his brothers, Joel and Michael. Many of his fondest memories were made in the presence of his loved ones, and he dedicated countless hours to cataloging family memories, preserving pictures, videos, and his family's sermons to ensure their legacy would never be forgotten. His dad was a constant source of guidance, especially in Chris' adoption ministry, where his father's wisdom and faith laid a solid foundation for his work. His mom's unwavering love and devotion were equally important, and Chris carried her influence with him every day.

The love between Chris and his two brothers, Joel and Michael, was unparalleled. They shared a bond forged through shared experiences and rivalry, especially when it came to sports. Chris cherished those moments of connection and made sure his brothers, just as he did with his daughters, grew up Mississippi State fans and developed a love for sports whether in backyard games or competitive league play.

Beyond his immediate family, Chris deeply cherished his in-laws and extended family. He valued the relationships he built with them and found joy in being surrounded by their love and laughter. He especially adored playing with his nieces and nephews, always the fun and energetic uncle who made them feel special. Whether it was a game in the yard, a playful joke, or simply spending time together, Chris embraced those moments, leaving a lasting impact on their lives. At the core of it all, Chris's love for family was enduring, and that love was the foundation of everything he did.

Outside of his family and ministry, Chris was a devoted Mississippi State fan, cheering for his Bulldogs with true passion, and his masterful love of spades. He loved traveling with his family, always eager to discover new places and create lasting memories for his daughters. Whether it was playing golf with Hannah Claire or taking daily walks with Ava, Chris cherished every moment spent with his girls, always focused on sharing experiences that would shape their lives.

A celebration of Chris's life will be held at Crossgates Church on March 27, 2025, at 11:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Zacchaeus' Tree Ministry or a charity supporting adoption and foster care. Chris's love for his family, his faith, and his mission will live on, leaving a legacy in the hearts of all who knew him.
