A Life Remembered and Cherished

It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Leonard Gerald Okonski, known to many as "Len," who departed this world to be with our Heavenly Father on Oct. 28, 2025, at the age of 96. Born on April 18, 1929, in DuBois, Pennsylvania to Zigmund and Anna Okonski. Leonard lived a long and full life with his loving family and never wavered in his deep devotion to his family throughout his years of service as "Head of the House." Now, reunited with his parents, siblings – Edward (and Lelia) Okonski, Margaret (and Walter) Marusiak, and Mary Jo (and Jack) Brunswick – and his loving wife Frances. Leonard will be deeply missed by all surviving family and friends.

Leonard was the beloved husband of Frances Beverly Okonski for 75 years; they began their life together in Columbia, South Carolina during the Korean War, moved to Fairless Hills, Pennsylvania to raise their children, transitioned to North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina upon retirement, and moved to The Villages, Florida when more warmth was desired. Leonard moved to Waterford, Michigan to be closer to family when his Frances passed in May 2025. A devoted and cherished father to Michael (and Gail) Okonski, Deborah Okonski Raykovitz, and David (and Angele) Okonski. A loving grandfather to Aaron Okonski, Trevor Okonski, Cassidy (and Philip) Benedict, and Katie Okonski. A proud, ecstatic, and joyous great-grandfather to Beckham and Hadley Benedict.

Leonard will rest in eternal peace in Morningside Cemetery in DuBois, Pennsylvania. A celebration of life gathering will be held in Waterford, Michigan at the Riverside Chapel (5630 Pontiac Lake Road) on Nov. 29, 2025, at 10:30 a.m. A memorial service followed by burial will be held in DuBois, Pennsylvania in June of 2026 – details to be provided later. In lieu of cards or flowers, the family requests that you simply pray for the good health and happiness of your own family.
