Patricia Platt Obituary

Patricia Ann (Lenz) Platt of DuBois, PA passed away peacefully on Monday, November 17, 2025, at the DuBois Nursing Home.

Patricia was born in Pittsburgh, PA, to the late Elmer and Augusta (Hape) Lenz. She graduated from Leechburg High School before earning her bachelor degree in Home Economics Education from Indiana State Teacher's College (now Indiana University of Pennsylvania). She later attended The Ohio State University earning a master's degree in Home Management. Patricia spent 35 years teaching in the DuBois Area School District, where she shared her passion for cooking and sewing with countless students whose lives she touched.

She met the love of her life at Sandy High School, when she met Richard W. Platt, Sr. They were married in Leechburg, PA and blessed with 63 wonderful years of marriage. She is survived by her husband.

Patricia was a devoted member of Mt. Zion United Methodist Church, where she served as a Sunday School teacher, lay leader, member of the United Methodist Women and Faithful Builders. She was a founding member of the Young at Heart Fellowship. She was also an active member of the Gideons International Auxiliary.

Patricia supported Richard in many activities connected to Camp Mountain Run for the Bucktail Council and was a former Girl Scout Troop leader. She was also a member of the DuBois Retired Teachers Association and volunteered her time delivering Meals on Wheels.

In their spare time, Patricia and Richard shared a love of travel, exploring 48 states across the U.S., as well as Canada, Mexico, Australia and New Zealand, and even a memorable cruise through the Panama Canal. At home, Patricia found joy in cooking, sewing and gardening, but her greatest happiness came from time spent with her family.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by son, Richard (Robin) Platt, Jr.; daughter, Susan (Eric) Siegfried; brother, John (Joyce) Lenz; granddaughters: Danielle Platt, Elizabeth Platt, Jessica (Ethan) Wang, Kathryn (Mitchell) Siegfried-Hefford; and great-granddaughter, Charlotte Wang.

Family and friends will be received at the Baronick Funeral Home & Crematorium, Inc. in DuBois on Friday, November 21, 2025 from 4-7 p.m.

A funeral service will be held at Mt Zion United Methodist Church in DuBois on Saturday, November 22, 2025, at 10 a.m., with Pastor Ann Dixon officiating.

Burial will follow at Morningside Cemetery, DuBois.

Donations can be sent to Mt. Zion United Methodist Church, 16 Denton Ave., and/or Parkside Community Center, 120 W. Park Ave., both in DuBois, PA 15801.

I had Mrs. Platt for Home Room and Home Economics Class in the 7th grade. Her husband was my high school basketball coach. I also graduated with their son. You all are in Anne and I's thoughts and prayers today!

41 years ago I had Mrs. Platt for HomeEc at the DuBois Jr High School. There is where she taught me how to stitch on plastic canvas and that has grown into a life-changer for me! I have recently started a cross stitch group called "Stitchy Mama's" here in DuBois and one of our members is opening her own cross stitch shop within a month or so across the the DuBois Public Library! THANK YOU Mrs. Platt for teaching me these skills :) You will always be remembered and missed.

It has been nearly 50 years since Susan and I were in the same Home Economics class taught by her mother. Mrs. Platt taught with such joy for everything she did, I remember thinking as a kid how corny she was. I'm the corny one now. I remember how much Susan truly admired her mom. You could see it in her eyes, in the joy she had in being in her mom's class.
