Charles (Sonny) Max Carlton
Born Oct. 27, 1939, in New Castle, and departed this life on Aug. 27, 2022, at the age of 82 years old.
He will be greatly missed by his wife Joanne (Claywell) Carlton of nearly 64 years; daughters Julie (Greg) Stonerock and Tina Carlton (Sean Moreillon); sons Brad (Marcia) and Randy (Pam), his loving dogs Daisy and Lucy; grandchildren Brandy Alley, Josh (Tina) Alley, Seth (Courtney) Stonerock, Matthew (Lindsey) Carlton, Christina Carlton, and Kelly (Corey) Buskirk; and seven great-grandchildren, many in-laws, friends and loved ones that will miss him dearly.
Charlie retired from the New Castle Fire Department after serving 22 years in various positions including one term as fire chief. He then worked as Maintenance Manager at James Town Village Apartments followed by Maintenance at Henry County Memorial Hospital.
Charlie loved golfing, fishing, bowling, mowing his yard; helping his lifelong friend John Sullivan on his farm; and spending time with his dogs. He also loved sitting on the porch chatting with his good neighbors and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents Vernon Paul and Rosie Mae Carlton; sister Joann Harding, mother and father-in-law Reed and Bonnie Claywell; brother and sister-in-law Gene and Marie Phipps; and one great grandson.
There will be no visitation or funeral at the request of Charlie.
In lieu of flowers please send any donation to the Muncie Ball IU Hospice, Shop with a Fireman Program with the New Castle Fire Department, or any charity of your choice.
