Charles Cole Obituary

Charles Edward Cole, 81, a long time Hagerstown resident, died Monday, Sept. 1, 2025, at Brooke Knoll Village, Avon, where he had recently resided.

He was born in New Castle on June 2, 1944, to Merle and Alleen (Burden) Cole. He lived most of his life in Wayne County.

Charlie was a 1962 graduate of Hagerstown High School. Following his retirement from the automotive department at Sears, he spent the next several years as a groundskeeper at Winding Branch Golf Course. He was an avid golfer and also enjoyed fishing with his son and grandsons.

He also had a life long appreciation for horses, spending many weekends at the racetrack and then, later on, helping with his daughter's 4-H Horse and Pony Club.

Survivors include two children, Scott Cole (Tess) and Jennifer Winters (Jason); six grandsons, Zachary Cole (Courtney), Benjamin Cole, Jonathon Cole (Makayla), Sam Cole, Ethan Winters and Jacob Winters; seven great grandchildren; four siblings, Marvin Cole (Kathy), Merleen Truax (Jim), Patti Moistner (Mark) and Rick Cole; several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, David Cole, a sister, Judith Cole and a sister in law, Roberta Cole.

Visitation will be 12 noon to 2 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 7, at Culberson Funeral Home. Services will follow at 2 p.m. Pastor Scott Moistner will officiate. Burial will be in West Lawn Cemetery.
