Daniel "Dan" Day Roach, 83, of New Castle, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, Aug. 13, 2025, at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis. Born on May 16, 1942, in Jeffersonville, Indiana, Dan was the son of the late Vernon and Louise (Kinnamon) Roach.
He graduated from Bloomfield High School and went on to earn both his Master's and Ed.S. degrees from Indiana University. On August 20, 1967, he married the love of his life, Cheryl "Sherry" (Fulk) Roach, with whom he shared 58 years of marriage.
Dan dedicated his life to education, serving as a teacher and coach at Gosport High School, North Knox High School, and Shakamak High School. He later held leadership roles as principal and superintendent at Switz City School System, and as superintendent at Crawford County Schools, West Washington School Corporation, and Union School Corporation in Modoc.
His commitment to his community extended beyond education. Dan was a proud member of the Bloomfield Masonic Lodge, Indianapolis Scottish Rite, and Zorah Shrine. He also belonged to the Lions Club and was a Kentucky Colonel. He served on numerous local boards, including the Henry County Planning Commission, Henry County Board of Zoning Appeals, the IAPSS, Washington County Board of Health, and Washington County Awareness Board.
Dan is survived by his devoted wife, Sherry Roach of New Castle; children, Gayla (Ted) Guetig of Clayton and Robert (Robin) Roach of Fishers; grandchildren: Blake (Jade) Guetig, Elizabeth Guetig, Lauren Guetig, Abbey Roach, Annalise Roach, Katie Guetig, Alexis Roach, and Izzy Guetig. Dan is also survived by several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In addition to his parents, Dan was preceded in death by his sister, Velma Baird, and his brother, Nelson Roach.
Visitation will be held from 2-5 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 16 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle. Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m., Sunday, Aug. 17 at Walnut Grove Cemetery in rural Bloomfield, IN.
