Jan Painter, 66, of Mooreland passed away on Tuesday March 5, 2024 at Hickory Creek in New Castle. She was born on April 12, 1957 in New Castle to the late Donald and Jessie (Newcome) Strother.
She was a 1975 Blue River High School graduate. Jan worked as a secretary at Blue River Elementary, she was a dispatcher for the Henry County Sheriff's Department and work at Disney World for a short time. Jan spent time in Canada helping her sister at the Big Cannon Lake Lodge and loved to tell stories of her time spent there. In 1979 Jan went to work for Weilands Flowers in New Castle and retired in 2016 after 37 years. She enjoyed helping her husband Tom farm, being outdoors, gardening, and canning. Jan loved spending the summers fishing and sitting out on the porch at the lake cottage and more than anything being a grandma to her grandchildren. Throughout the years she kept close to her high school classmates and with her coworkers.
Jan is survived by her husband, Tom Painter; son, Rob Painter; daughter, Nicole (Jerry) Jinks; step daughter, Laura Bolinger; grandchildren, Alex Jinks, Theo Jinks, Taylor Michel and Morgan Bolinger; brother, Jim (Donnae) Strother; sister, Jean (Butch) Creason; sisters-in-law, Ellaine Painter, Rosalind (Dan) Richey and Ramona (Greg) Hayne; brothers-in-law, Joe Painter, David (Pam) Painter and Nate (Jeanne) André; cousins, Jonni (Dave) Lumpkin and Debbie (Greg) Durst; along with many other extended family members.
In addition to her parents Jan is preceded in death by her sister-in-law, Patricia André.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday March 23, 2024 at 3 p.m. at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle. Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until the time of service. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to Mooreland Christian Church, 204 N Broad St, Mooreland, Indiana 47360.
