Ronald Gene "Ronnie" Abrell, 93, of Springport, Indiana, passed away Friday evening, December 20, 2024, at Morristown Manor.
He was born on July 26, 1931, in Jefferson Township, a son of the late George and Margaret N. (Bell) Abrell.
Ronnie attended Sulphur Springs School and married his first wife, Margaret Badger, on October 24, 1951. Ronnie was no stranger to hard work. Over his career, he drove a milk truck, farmed, was self-employed as a contractor, and worked as a mechanic at John Deere and Ford. For 25 years, he owned Ronnie's Garage and Filling Station in Springport. He drove school buses for Blue River Valley for 23 years before retiring in 1993.
Ronnie's faith was important to him. He had been a member of Springport Christian Church since 1947 and held numerous offices in the church and Woodlawn Cemetery. Following Margaret's passing in 1995, he married Wilma Van Kuren in 1999 and they were married until she passed away in 2002.
Those left to cherish Ronnie's memory include two sons, Bill Abrell of New Castle and John (Letha) Abrell of Carthage; a step-daughter, Cherie Van Kuren (Bob) Bales of Schoolcraft, MI; grandchildren, Stephanie Simpson, Michael (Brittany) Abrell, and Amanda Heath; step-grandchildren, Paul (Kay) Lawson and Amy (Chuck) Dyer; great-grandchildren, Makayla, Kaylee, Jasmine, Joey, Kylee, and Elise; six step-great-grandchildren, six great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Rosalie Sampley of Mt. Summit, and several nieces and nephews.
Ron was preceded in death by his first wife, Margaret Abrell, in 1995; his second wife, Wilma Abrell, in 2002; his dear friend and companion, Sue McDonnell; his son, Robert (Sue) Abrell; a daughter-in-law, Brenda Abrell; and a sister, Mildred Sorrell.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm Thursday, December 26, 2024 at Sproles Family Funeral Home with Pastor Paul Lawson officiating. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery in Springport.
Friends may call from 11:00 am until the time of service Thursday at the funeral home.

Ronnie was one of my favorite bus drivers at BRV -- we always chatted on the bus line - I was a teacher there for 40 years - he was a class person !!! Kris Bitner
