Roy "Sonny" Esco Denney, 85, of Middletown passed away Monday, November 17th. He was born October 19, 1940, in Savage, KY to the late Edgar and Edith "Dorothy" (Catron) Denney.
Sonny was a 1960 graduate of New Castle Chrysler High school and was employed with Delco Remy for 37 years. He served in the army for 3 years and was stationed in Alaska, which he loved. Sonny loved to travel and always enjoyed learning new things. He built his home by himself and loved to tinker with anything. Sonny was an all-around handyman with skills in mechanics, electrical and concrete work. He was a modern-day Renaissance man. Sonny loved to play chess, checkers, and he was an avid outdoorsman and hunter.
He is survived by his son, Troy (Marie) Denney of Plainfield; adopted son, Mark (Jodi) Schell; brother, Jack Denney; sister, Bell Meese; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
In addition to his parents, Sonny is preceded in death by his wife, Wanda (Chaney) Denney whom he married on June 8, 1963; his sister, Francis Leap and brothers, Jerry Denney and Jim Denney.
Services will be held on Saturday, November 22, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle. Burial will follow in Green Hills Memory Gardens. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service. You may express condolences or share a memory of Sonny at www.hinsey-brown.com.
