Carmen A. Barlam, 91, of Hopewell Township died unexpectedly at Our Lady of Lourdes Medical Center in Camden on Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2013.
Born in Cedarville on Dec. 29, 1921, to the late Carmen Barlam and Beatrice Venerado Barlam, he was the husband of the late Betty M. Kingerley Barlam. He had been a resident of the Bridgeton area since 1947. Prior to that, he had lived in Cedarville. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Force during World War II. He served in the 8th Air Force, 67th fighter wing and was stationed in Barnick, England, in 1943. He was honorably discharged in October 1945. Prior to his retirement, Mr. Barlam was employed by Price Label Company in Bridgeton as a lithographer. He was a member of the Parish of the Holy Cross-Immaculate Conception Church, where he served as an usher for 50 years. He was an avid ballroom dancer.
He is survived by twin daughters, Donna Marshall (Nate) of Hopewell Township and Linda Petrunis (John "Joe") of Cherry Hill; a brother, Albert Barlam of Millville; a sister, Victoria Donato of Bridgeton; five grandchildren, Karen Dooley (Patrick), Damon Marshall, Joseph Petrunis, Greg Petrunis (Kris) and David Petrunis (Amy); seven great-grandchildren; and three great great-grandchildren. Besides his wife, Betty M. Barlam, he was preceded in death by seven brothers, Anthony Barlam, Dominick Barlam, Salvatore Barlam, Ernest Barlam, Daniel Barlam, Joseph Barlam and Louis Barlam; and four sisters, Mary Raneri, Nellie Denuncio, Florence Barlam and Susan Peppitone.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at the Parish of the Holy Cross-Immaculate Conception Church, 312 N. Pearl St., Bridgeton, on Monday at 11 a.m. Interment will take place at Cumberland County Veteran's Cemetery in Hopewell Township. Friends will be received at the church from 10 to 11 a.m. prior to the mass.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Padgett Funeral Home, Upper Deerfield Township.
