Hazel Moore
Newfield - Hazel (Miller) Moore, 97, of Newfield, NJ, passed away on Sunday, January 3, 2021, after being in failing health. Born in Newfield, February 24, 1923, in the house where she grew up, was married in and many years later, after her parents, Eugene and Winifred (Williams) Miller passed away, lived in again with her husband. She was a life-long resident of her hometown of Newfield. Hazel was a member of the Vineland High School graduating Class of 1941. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 67 years, Jack W. Moore, in 2011.
During WWII, Hazel did volunteer work at Newcomb Hospital in Vineland and worked at Kimble Glass. She traveled from Newfield to San Francisco, via trains, to meet Jack's ship, the USS Overton, twice during his Wartime Naval service, in order to spend time with her husband, between Pacific Theatre deployments. Over the years she held various jobs, including having her own business making slip covers. She was very proud to be the owner of a brand new 1964 Ford Mustang, shortly after they first debuted. Hazel was an avid reader, an amazing seamstress, who also enjoyed doing other handwork such as knitting, crocheting, needlepoint and tatting. She was widely known for her phenomenal baking skills, fundraising for Newfield Public Library through the library bake sales. People would come into the library asking when they could order one of her famous Peach or Apple Pies, and Cinnamon buns. She was a member of the Newfield Public Library Board of Directors and volunteered at the Library functions for over 25 years. Hazel loved to travel, going as far as Australia, through the Caribbean, Canada and up to Alaska, as well as criss crossing the continental US, with her husband, family and friends. She also enjoy collecting various antiques over the years, especially glass and pottery. Hazel volunteered as a poll watcher in Newfield for many years, as well as being a member of the Newfield Historical Society. She gardened and shared her delicious jams and jellies with family and neighbors, as well.
Most importantly, Hazel was extremely supportive and proud of her beloved children and their spouses. She enjoyed spending time with her family, vacationing with them and having them all together for holidays and birthday dinners. She adored her own dogs and cat, as well as her dog and cat grand pets and great grand pets. The true highlight of her life, was her three grandchildren, who she deeply loved, cherished, and spoiled like crazy. When they moved to Newfield, living just a few houses away from her, she was, indeed, extremely delighted! As years passed, and the great grandchildren began to appear, she was again, madly in love and the cycle repeated itself, all over again.
Hazel is greatly missed and survived by her son and daughter-in-law, John T. and Jacklyn (Jacki) Moore, and her daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Robert (Bob) Mounier, all of Newfield. Her grandchildren, Amanda Moore Burke (Edward) of Newark,DE, John "JT" Moore (Cari) and Elizabeth Bree Moore Pakosinski (Robert Jr.), all of Vineland, NJ. Her Great grandchildren, Abigail R.
