Jean D. Fisher, 85, went home to be with our Heavenly Father on Tuesday, Nov. 9, 2010.
She was a native of Vineland and a Newport News, Va., resident for 14 years.
Jean worked for Bell Telephone of New Jersey for 40 years, but Jean's greatest gift was her ability to love unconditionally, as a gracious, caring friend to all.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Morgan Fisher, and daughter by choice, Anita T. Lombardo.
She is survived by her daughter and best friend, Sherri Fisher Staples and her husband Douglas and her adored granddaughter, Lindsay Rae Staples. Jean also leaves to cherish her memory two children by choice, Vickie Lewis and Tim Thomas. She also had many, many people who called her mom.
Special thanks to the staff of Hidenwood Retirement Center and the staff of Northampton Convalescent Center and especially her guardian angel, Mary Andrews.
Graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday at Greenmount Cemetery, First Avenue, Hammonton, with the Rev. Jeanette Block officiating.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Christ United Methodist Church, 133 Deep Creek Road, Newport News, VA 23606.
Written condolences to the family may be e-mailed to wbfuneralhome@
Arrangements are under the direction of Wainwright-Bernhardt Funeral Home, Vineland.

When I remember Jean, I remember the sweetest smile I have ever seen. She was so brave to leave home and come to the south. It is amazing what we do for the ones we love. I am sorry for your loss. May your happy memories comfort you now and forever as Mom lies in God's Hands. You are all in my heart and prayers.

I will always remember Jean as "Mimi". After my mother died she became a grandmother to my daughter, Sarah. She loved and cared for Sarah like she did for Lindsay and no amount of words can ever express what that meant to me. I will miss you but I am happy you are with God where your body is restored and happiness is yours for eternity.
