Lawrence Donald Cranmer Sr., born June 13, 1931, in Millville, went home to be with his Lord Jesus on Thursday, Oct. 14, 2010, while he was surrounded by his loving family.
Lawrence was preceded in death by his parents, Harry B. and Arinda G. Cranmer; brothers, Harry, William, Arnold and Alfred; and sisters, Arminda Doran and Verna Alampi.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Bertha Foster Cranmer; three sons, Lawrence Donald Jr. and companion Lisa of Egg Harbor City, Gregory Ernest and wife Kristi of Millville, and Harrison Benjamin and wife Leigh of Millville; one daughter, Beth Ann of Millville; along with two grandchildren, Ryan and Kamry. Also surviving are his sisters, Eleanor Evergetis of Lexington, S.C., and Judy Fithian and husband Roger of Christiansburg, Va.
From 1953 to 1955, Lawrence served in the U.S. Army, and during his time in Germany, he was an MP (Military Police). He was a member of American Legion Nabb-Leslie Post No. 82 of Millville.
He was well known and loved by the residents of Millville, where he owned and operated Cranmer's Garage, a Millville landmark. His father, Harry, started the business in the 1940s and Lawrence worked there as a teenager and took over when his father passed away in 1966. His sons also worked in the garage for a number of years.
Cranmer's Garage was a place where many of his friends gathered to laugh and share their experiences, as well as a trusted business where many Millville residents depended on the Cranmers to maintain their vehicles. Well respected and loved by his community and family, Lawrence will be sorely missed. He was a friend to many and cherished by his family.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday and 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at Maranatha Baptist Church, 1524 Bridgeton-Millville Pike, Millville. His life will be remembered and honored at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the church with burial at Greenwood Memorial Park in Millville. Following the service, family and friends are invited back to the church.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Maranatha Baptist Church, 1524 Bridgeton-Millville Pike, Millville, NJ 08332.
Arrangements are under the direction of Christy Funeral Home in Millville.

The Cranmer Family,
I am so sorry to hear of Lawrence passing. I spent much of my teenage years with him learning about cars, business, life, and most of all, how to laugh a lot. Truly one of the best people I ever knew. I will cherish always my memories of him. My condolences to Bertha and the entire Cranmer family.

Dear Cranmer Family,
We are very sorry to learn of your loss today. Mr. Cranmer was, and always will be, a larger than life kind of man. Strong, kind, tough yet gentle, always good for a friendly smile and a good joke. Your husband and father was one of the good guys, and we will remember him with a smile.
Sincerely,
Dave Airey and Bob Colle

Memories,
Uncle Lawrence is a large part of my fondest childhood memories, summers with the boys at the garage, holidays with all the families gathered in Millville, a summer vacation to Nova Scotia that I recall and tell stories of all the time.
In more recent years we shared family reunions on a cruise to the Caribbean and October fest at Mountain Lakes. It was an honor to have shared these moments of his life.
This is how I will always remember Uncle Lawrence until I see him again.
