Robert C. Hutchings, 89, of Millville died Saturday, March 17, 2012, at the Millville Center after a lengthy illness.
Born and raised in Millville, he graduated from Millville High School, Class of 1940. He played on the championship basketball team, as well as playing football, and was a member of the track team.
Mr. Hutchings served in the U.S. Army as a corporal during World War II in the Pacific Theatre. When he returned, he worked for Millville Manufacturing Co. and then for Armstrong Cork Co., Kerr Glass and Foster Forbes, where he retired.
He was an avid sports fan and an outstanding bowler. He loved to golf, go to the casinos and work in his garden, and he will miss his dog, Hondo. He truly loved watching his son and grandson play basketball, soccer, football and baseball. He also enjoyed their trips to the house in Marblehead, Mass. He was a member of the VFW , Bush-Kerrick, Post No. 2169 of Millville.
Mr. Hutchings is survived by his wife, Alice H. (McMicking); one son, Robert W. Hutchings and wife Janet of Deerfield; one daughter, Donna L. Dickerson and husband Herbert of Dalzell, S.C.; one sister, Dorothy Bassano and husband Angelo of Vineland; two grandsons, Robert Matthew Hutchings and Ryan Patrick Hutchings; one niece, Dottie and husband Rich; several nieces; and one nephew. He also enjoyed his friendship with Ronnie and Margaret Vetter and Maria Marcynczn.
He was predeceased by his parents, Bert and Eleanor Hutchings; one daughter, Norma Jean Hutchings; one sister, Ann Surran; and two brothers, Frank and William Hutchings.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday in Christy Funeral Home, 11 W. Broad St., Millville. Viewings will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, and again from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday in the funeral home. Burial will be in Greenwood Memorial Park, Millville.

Bob....sorry to read about your Dad, worked with him summers at Kerr Glass (College Years)...always remember his good humor and honesty, and the dart games at lunch and AC race track at night...he always bet your number 24. God Bless your family at this sad time.
