Harold McCammon Obituary
Harold "Shannon" McCammon
Born: July 31, 1952 | Died: August 31, 2025
Harold "Shannon" McCammon, 73, passed on to Glory on Sunday, August 31, 2025 at his home in Danville, Kentucky surrounded by family. He was preceded in death by his parents Harold and Dorothy McCammon, both of Maryville, Tennessee. Shannon is survived by wife of 49 years, Susan Williams McCammon of Danville, Kentucky; his three daughters, Shanna (Kelly) Meyers of Lexington Kentucky, Erin (Shawn) Patrick of Knoxville, Tennessee, and Rebecca (James) Kurk of Danville, Kentucky; and his grandchildren, Emerson and Delaney Meyers, Fisher and Willow Patrick, and Silas Kurk. He is also survived by his sister Lou Ann Kirkland (Charles) of Maryville, Tennessee and cousin Nancy Amerine of Johnson City, Tennessee.
Growing up in the Fairview community, Shannon attended Fairview School and graduated from Everett High School in 1970. He went on to earn a Bachelor of Science in Education from the University of Tennessee in 1974. Shannon often said he pursued his degree as a "backup plan," in case his lifelong dream of being a full-time farmer didn't work out.
Farming was truly his calling. Alongside his father, he owned and operated Maryville Milling Company and farmed grains full time. When he wasn't in the fields, he was talking about farming - spending countless hours in shops, local businesses, and on the phone with friends, always sharing stories and conversations about the land and the work he loved.
Sundays were always reserved for faith and family. Shannon grew up attending Fairview Methodist Church (where he met his wife, Susan) and remained an active and faithful member until moving to Kentucky in 1989. Sundays were cherished days - spent worshiping in the morning, gathering for lunch with family, and then enjoying a well-deserved afternoon nap.
Visitation will be on Friday, September 5, 2025 from 1:30pm to 3:00pm, followed by funeral services at 3pm at Walden Funeral Home in Perryville, KY. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Cemetery in Perryville, Kentucky. Expressions of sympathy may be made to Fairview Methodist Church in his memory.
Pallbearers will be Kelly Meyers, Shawn Patrick, James Kurk, Barry Wright, Wes Pruitt, and Jamie Reynolds. Honorary Pallbearers will be Joe Bailey Wright and John Keller.
