Alfred Young Obituary

Merrimack, N.H. - Alfred Young Jr., of Merrimack, N.H., and formerly of East Lyme, and South Weymouth, Mass., died Friday, Dec. 10, 2010, at his home after a sudden illness.

He was born in Malden, Mass. on Jan. 8, 1925, a son of the late Alfred and Annie (Kidd) Young Sr.

Mr. Young was a graduate of Everett High School in Massachusetts and Massachusetts Institute of Technology with a degree in marine engineering and naval architecture. He was a U.S. Navy veteran serving during World War II as machinist mate first class. Before retirement, he was employed at Electric Boat in Groton as a nuclear engineer.

Mr. Young loved boating. He was a former member of the Huntington Street Baptist Church in Connecticut where he served as a church deacon, and Sunday school teacher. He was also a member of the Gideon.

He was so loved by his wife, daughters and son-in-laws, and grandchildren. He will be greatly missed. Members of his family include his wife of 62 years, Shirley L. (Hotz) Young of Merrimack; three daughters and sons in-laws, Jan and Bob Fast of Florida, Ruth and Dr. Aubrey Haschick, of Westford, Mass., and Marcia and Stephen Draper of Nashua; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Mr. Young is predeceased by a daughter, Deborah Young, and by three siblings, Jean Seaverns, Margaret Stewart, and Esther Jones.

Calling hours are from 9 to 10 a.m. at the First Baptist Church, 121 Manchester St., Nashua, N.H. Friday. Funeral service will commence at 10 a.m. Burial will be at 1 p.m. in the New Hampshire Veterans Cemetery.
