Alice Jansen Obituary
Born in Mansfield, on Nov. 21,1917, she was the daughter of the late Paul and Marie (Pfarrius) Jansen and called Mansfield Center home for most of her life. Alice was a graduate of Hartford Hospital School of Nursing and the School of Physical Therapy at Columbia University in New York City.
She served as a nurse and physical therapist in the U.S. Navy during World War II and the Korean Conflict, retiring with the rank of lieutenant commander. For the remainder of her long career, Alice was a nurse at hospitals in Hartford and Boston. Alice was an active member and volunteer at the Mansfield Senior Center as well as the Garden Gate Club and numerous other organizations. She attended the First Church of Christ of Mansfield.
She is survived by three nieces and their husbands, Vivian Sukenik of New York City, Lynn and Allan Potter of Boydton,Va. and Mary and Ronald Schoenherr of California; and her nephew and his wife, Richard and Magda Jansen of Mumford Cove; grandneices/nephews, Jennifer (Potter) Onofry of Milford Pa., Erin (Jansen) Bastien of Mystic, Wyatt R. Jansen of Greenwich and David Schoenherr. Alice also leaves additional extended family and many friends whom she enjoyed greatly.
She was predeceased by brothers, Paul, Gustave and Harold Jansen; and niece, Adelaide Jansen.
The family is sincerely grateful for and wishes to thank the staff of Academy Point and Hospice for all the kind and gentle care they provided her during her stay there.
A graveside memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Aug. 24, at the New Mansfield Center Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, Alice's wish was that donations be made to the Mansfield Senior Center or a charity of the donor's choice.
