He was born in Pawcatuck on Jan. 11, 1928, son of the late Joseph and Marguerite Crumb. Arthur attended St. Michael's School in Pawcatuck, and completed his education while in the U.S. Air Force which he joined in 1947 and retired from in 1964. As a young boy he spent many enjoyable summers with his family at the Davis Farm on Greenhaven Road in Pawcatuck. As an avid historian of all the local history of Pawcatuck, especially Lower Pawcatuck (also known as Clarksville and The Highlands) which is where he was raised, everyone who he came in contact with was told a story about the family who lived in each house and also the history of the Pawcatuck River.
He worked at Cottrell's, Seaport Marine and Electric Boat. Arthur loved his many memorable nights spent playing pool as a member of the 9-Ball team "The Sharkshooters" of the A.P.A. Pool League. He was also awarded a plaque for the Top Performing Player, of which he was very proud. Arthur and his wife Elizabeth for many years traveled in their Winnebago Motor-home, spending the winter months in Lake Worth, Fla., and the summer months in Pawcatuck.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Elizabeth (Allen) Crumb; his three daughters and their spouses, Pamela and Dale Tourville of Pawcatuck, Patricia and Samuel Payne of Gainesboro, Tenn., and Lynn and Tracy Jackson of Stonington; eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother and his wife, Geoffrey and Donna Crumb of Hollywood, Fla., his sister, Joyce Chatfield, of Keystone Heights, Fla., and another brother, Gary Crumb, of West Palm Beach, Fla.
He was predeceased by his brother, Richard Crumb, of Ocala, Fl.
His family will greet relatives and friends at The Dinoto Funeral Home, 17 Pearl Street, Historic downtown Mystic on Friday from 6 to 7:15 p.m., immediately followed by a service at 7:30 p.m. Burial is private.
In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may made to Hospice of SECT, 179 Gallivan Lane, P.O. Box 902, Uncasville CT 06382-0902. The family would like to thank their wonderful caregivers from Hospice of SECT and Arthur's very special volunteer, Dan Potter.
